the reciever may be nickel plated but im pretty sure the barrel is stainless steel. and since you cant watch the video ill explain. its a video on the new 10/22 which break down into two peices extrememly easy. it makes it crazy compact and easy to fit into a back pack.

I would really like to see how this sweet little carbine breaks down. I need to watch this video.

You guys dig that how and where they split the front from the back makes all the difference in the world, right?

it breaks down by a quarter turn where the barrel meets the reciever. the stock and barrel all remove as one.

What are you carrying 10K in .22LR
I'd rather have 500-1000 in 5.56

Its not heavy enough to make me want to drop down to .22 LR

The WASR-10 is an incredibly compact weapon.  It is actually SHORTER in overall length than a Red Ryder BB gun.  If the weight is too much mebbeh you should drag heavy hoses like me at work.  Work out or somethin'!

i think your much more likely to die of starvation then of a human attacker in a rural bug out location. this assumes your bugging out because of a situation that will leave you bugged out for a prolonged period of time. more ammo on my person means more food down the road. if you need human attacker defense then add that gun in addition to a .22. but if you really only plan to carry one gun it absolutely needs to be a .22.

if im bugging out and can only grab one gun its the 10/22 no question.

are you guys bugging out to meet millions of chinese that will be hitting the beach or are you guys bugging out to escape danger and survive in these scenrios where the most important gun you can think to carry is a heavy large bore rifle? carry a few thousand rounds of 7.62 around and let me know how it works out for ya.... not to mention how the rabbits and squirrels you WILL be shooting with this ultimate survival rifle will look. blowing half the meat away...

Kenny, I love ya man. But if I have to bug out with only one firearm ( not going to happen ) its NOT going to be a .22 no matter how long I have to survive. What ever I'm carrying is going to have the Potential for any means of self defense.

while prepping is a never ending progression of change...bugging out where your on foot and will need food is a constant scenario. i know its not the coolest thing to fantasize about carrying a .22lr into the end of times but its reality... not everything gets to be cool.
again where the hell are you guys bugging out to that you need all this fire power as priority one over life giving energy from food? you cant carry enough ammo to make the big bore rifles worth carrying alone. they are a secondary weapon in survival and a primary in self defense. you carry low amounts of ammo for a big bore for that off chance that your epic fantasies come true. if you magically dont die then throw it in the dirt and go get some damn dinner now.

Kenny I will divulge in my case an my case alone.

I am bugging out to a place where  shooting small game isn't everything I have to rely on.
I got turtles, fish, gator. ( Trap setups will get them ) Deer, Bear, Hog. ( .22 ain't ganna bring it )
Yes, having 10 thousand rounds would be awesome for long term, but seriously my luck isn't the greatest and I'd rather not run up on even the littlest  of black bears or the rare Florida  panther with a .22 Long Rifle.

reading this thread makes me laugh pretty hard, judging by the comments none of you have truely had to live off the land for a long time

the BEST way to bug out is a 22 rifle and something like a 6" 357magnum

but if you have to pick one gun 22lr is the only gun that will sustain you for an extended period of time

Redneck!  Hey buddy.  Good to see you!

I thought maybe your girlfriend had cut your typing fingers off when she caught you fondling some other girl.  Kind of a finger Bobbit.  LOL!

i just couldn't read through this whole thread so sorry if i missed something, but IMO I'd never bug out on foot without an actual primary rifle. an AR breaks in half, and also has .22lr conversion bolts readily available at most gun shops.

Shot placement shot placement shot placement,,,, and don't get into an engagement in the first place! I'm with mountain on this, when  i was a kid when i went hunting or fishing it was to put meat on the table. I have dropped dear with a .22 i don't think i would take on a black bear with it. I have shot frogs (my kind of frog giggin') the .22 is the most practical rifle you can have. When the big game is hunted out, hows that .223 or 7.62 going to work on squirrels, rabbits, rats, frog, turtle, and cats?

Its not  about all the big game being hunted out. its about not being the biggest thing in forest.
And for being such awesome survivalist you sure don't mention snares traps trout lines. There are other ways to catch small game.

I totally agree with the "not getting into an engagement in the first place."  That is the best wisdom.  But I would give my .22 bolt-action rifle to someone else in our group.  I'd stick with my WASR-10 or Mosin-Nagant and a sidearm depending on terrain and population density.  My "handout" is my Winchester Super-X 12-guage pump shotty with plenty of 00buck.  That goes to my fave brother-in-law.
