Daily vices/habits in SHTF
« on: February 21, 2013, 02:42:22 PM »
In a shtf situation, are you prepared to give up your daily vices? Smokes, chew, coffee, soda, meth? Since December, I've gone off soda, except for a nice treat while dining out once in a while. Check out the excellent video below.

Just kidding about the meth comment.  ;D

Good post, pretty scenery, and the guys make a lot of sense. I guess if it comes down to it, we wouldn't have a choice but to give those things up. I would be tempted to raid another camp for smokes and coffee. On the other hand, coffee and tobacco would be something non-smokers/ chewers and non-coffee drinkers might consider stocking up on. They would be like gold that could be traded for a lot of other things. I have a machine for making my own smokes, and buy tobacco in the 1 pound bags. A 1 pound bag is around 17.00, tubes come in boxes of 200. ( about 2.50-3.00 ) That's 10 packs of smokes for around 20.00. Plus you would still have tobacco left over. Ten packs of smokes would get quite a bit in the bargaining world, I imagine. Just a thought. Have a good one!

Nice video, I'll give the guys a chance and subscribe to their channel, even considering how horrible their acting is :D

Even without considering SHTF scenarios, quitting your vices is good for your wallet and your health, you can't go wrong on that path.
I quit smoking a few years ago, and I just drink water, beer or jack daniels.
Beer and Jack daniels are my vices, but thankfully I can live without those hehe

Very good video, on a personal note I am cigar smoker now I don't smoke em every day just once in a while and I could easily give up cigars because I don't inhale therefor no nicotine in my system, those who smoke cigars you know what I mean.

If you don't smoke them very often, you're probably right that you aren't dependent, but you are wrong in your thinking that you aren't ingesting nicotine because you don't inhale.  Look up "free nicotine" and "oral mucosa"; separately one is a pipe dream and the other's just fun to say, but together they create a health risk  :(

The key to life is moderation.  I'm a renaissance woman of vices, sans the addiction: an occasional cigar, an occasional cigarette, an occasional chew, an occasional drink, the list goes on and on...

The one habit I can't kick, coffee.  We've started buying vacuum sealed packages of cheap coffee to add to the preps next to the percolator.  That's probably the thing I will have the most trouble not consuming when we start having kids...

Oh yeah, and gummy bears too-- delicious lil bastards  :))

I think the hardest thing Americans will have to give up (not addressed yet) is their electronic gadgets.  No cell phones, no surfing the internet, no texting, etc.  I would argue good riddance and that technology has made our lives MORE of a pain-in-the-ass, not less. :))

Ive prepped hard alcohol. And to really stretch its volume one could take it analy. Not sure id do that but one shot that way would make even a career drinker very intoxicated due to no filtration from what i understand. Not sure what other risks are involved beyond too much giving you alcohol poisoning pretty easily.

I couldn't do that with my cigarettes, I can only exhale........................................AND, imagine how awkward it would be to ask someone for a light.

My biggest habits are chewing gum, a cup of coffee in the morning, and drinking lots and lots of water. Drinking lots of water (8-10, 16 oz bottles a day) has eliminated my headaches and helped me lose weight. I'd be hard-pressed to limit water consumption.

Two things I can't give up: A good clean shave and my tea. That's why I started using a straight razor and am buying some tea plants.

Get your habit adjusted to Rose Hips, Chamomile and Mint.. caffeine free but still a great blend.

Oh and GROW A FUCKING BEARD LIKE A MAN! :P

I'm just teasing, if you can shave with a straight razor then you're pretty fucking hard!

LOL, yeah I'd probably be better to switch over to rose hips. Not one for mint though. When the feces flies I'm going to be needing the caffeine. As far as a beard. I could have donated mine to a small army over the past 3 years. It never truly leaves. Just gets trimmed. The straight razor is for clean up. The wife complains it tickles to much  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

The Razor tickles? Tre Kinky!  :))

My wife (thatGirl) went out of town for a work deal and I thought I would suprise her by picking her up at the airport with a clean shaven face.. She walked right past me! Don't listen to 'em when they say how much they want you to shave. If you do they just complain about it anyway.

Complaining is a woman's prerogative. If it ain't my beard it's my chest. If it ain't that it's my laundry. So and so on.....

My wife did the EXACT same thing.

Many years ago I had to cut my beard off so I could appear in a company play.

My wife and her folks (In those days no TSA) walked right past me as they were approaching the gate to great me.

With that said, my Mother in-law hollered out my name as I passed them at the gate. My mother in-law loved me...Never knew why.  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

In my defense I hadn't seen TG's face in 8 years or so and I don't know what he's talking about when he says I didn't like it, I liked it too much-- couldn't keep my hands off until I realized it was him (just kidding)!  :P

And yes, we're always nagging you guys regardless of what you do (it's not that you don't listen or follow directions).  You are all saints for putting up with us.  If it wasn't for man's obsession with boobs and pussy, there'd be a bounty on our heads like coyotes ::)

Doubt he ever would.  Bits of wisdom like that were only ever uttered away from his heavily armed wife's ears...

We should start a Larry thread and regale the forum with mythical tales of the wild west and our buddies' dad, a man who embodies all of the awesome attributes of my favorite John Wayne characters.

Considering I have a family of tweaker alcoholics I do laugh my ass off at times and then have a good cry when I realize Ive actually seen some of the shit in real life. I would say it is pretty damn good and Im guessing the writers are drawing on some of their experiences with family members. They do keep it pretty lighthearted and funny even though they are poking fun at some heavy shit. Its set in Shitcago and they do make fun of the city alot and kinda point out why its a fucken mess at times though I dont know if they are doing that on purpose.

This actually brings up a point I've been meaning to share.

I quit smoking cigarettes a few months ago. I hsf been 'trying' to quit smoking for years and it was only after taking a drug called chantix that I successfully did so. Even with help it was the hardest thing I've ever done. I couldn't imagine trying to survive and go through withdrawal.

So seriously, if it's not a habit, then just stop. Those of you who only smoke every once and a while, just don't. Trust me when I tell you it's not worth the pain in the ass if it DOES become a habit. A habit which, might I add, is notoriously hard to kick.

Coffee, like so many others, is going to be especially hard but I'm cutting back now to make any necessary transition easier. By cutting back I mean, I'm down to 1-2 cups a day.  ::)

Everything else is cake. Seriously... HOW WILL I LIVE WITHOUT CAKE?! :P
