A buddy of mine and I were at a range a little while back and did an experiment: how easy was it to transition from one pistol caliber/platform to another for accurate shooting? We both brought our entire handgun collections to this expensive experiment. The results may or may not shock you. I shot 3 mags through my Sig p220 as a "baseline" feel. He did the same with his CZ-75. Keep in mind, he is a "seasoned" 9mm shooter and I am a "seasoned" .45 shooter. We were dealing with various sizes, calibers, triggers, and recoil impulses. After the baseline, here's how the transition ranked for us: (best to worst)
Me:
1) CZ-82 in 9mm Makarov (shocked me!)
2) Colt 1911/K-frame .357 (tie)
3) J-frame .38 +p
4) Browning Hi-Power
5) CZ-75
My buddy:
1) Browning Hi-Power
2) CZ-82
3) K-frame .357
4) J-frame .38+p
5) Colt 1911
6) Sig p220
Note: the rankings for the test EXCLUDED our EDC. The purpose of the test was to see how well we transition into a different platform that is not our EDC. In SHTF, you can't just "pick up" a platform you are not used to and shoot lights out with it. Your thoughts?
