On a side note somewhat similar to this. My wife was showing me this morning an article she was sent on facebook about a problem in Jefferson Parish, LA where there are brain eating amoebas in the public drinking water. (This is a problem we have here in Florida when people swim in lakes.)
The amoebas in the drinking water aren't a problem if the water is used for drinking apparently. The problem comes that some people have been using the water to flush their nostrils for sinus relief which has allowed the amoebas to reach their brain. If not treated within 12 hours it does cause death.
My statement to her was, "What about people or kids who take baths or even showers?" I've gotten water in my nose like that before.
