Well, just a brief aside: For you guys with young children, my daughter is 4 1/2. She whines after about an hour of leisurely walking, telling me her legs just won't go anymore. I can't tell if they really do hurt her or if she's just being lazy. Trying to get her to buck up some by refusing pick-up requests, but it doesn't seem like she's getting any better. Is that the case with you guys?

I cannot envision going camping/hiking with her later and showing her things if she won't even walk for more than an hour on paved roads. Jeez....

I just feel that making them a rough neck takes a little bit more I dunno delicacy maybe the right word. If you go about it the wrong way you'll end up with a dyke.

Raised a little girl and she turned out great, there may be some luck but I think it's mostly paying attention and answering any of their questions (with a few passes to mom). I had some hobbies and the resulting leftover items that when she asked about I explained and showed. The firearms are standard stuff but one incident sticks in my mind. I used to practice fencing and knife fighting with a friend, we used sharpie markers for the knife part so when she showed an interest we started practicing. The look of smug satisfaction on her face will stick with me as I'm sure the look of surprise on mine will stick with her. I still think about that very black mark across my neck and not a spot on that quick little 12 year old. Getting old sucks so make sure you put in as much time with them as you can. Don't make it too easy or too hard on the challenges, keep it appropriate to their skill and interest whatever it is so they don't get discouraged too.
