Kerosene storage

Random question, I'm trying to find a container to store kerosene in for my garage heater.  Do you think one of those closed top blue barrels people use for rain collection would be okay?

Growing up I know my Dad and Grandfather stored kerosene in just about anything that was clean, free of debris, or other contaminates. I dont think you would have any kind of issue storing it in one of those blue rain water barrels. Heres a few links you can look over maybe they will help.

That's what I was thinking, in theory the blue barrels are the same material as the blue kerosene cans (high density polyethylene).  I'm going to go for it and just keep a steady eye on it.

Byrd you should have no problems.

Kerosene is one of the easier petroleum based items to store. Check NorthernTool for a drum & pail manual pump and you are good to go.

I have the farmer across the way buy my Kerosene as he does not have to pay federal or state tax. If you don't have a friendly farmer near buy google "off road Kerosene" and your town/city. There are places that sell Off road Kerosene which has no federal tax you just have to pay for state. Depending on your state you could save as much as 50? a gallon.

Last, keep your eye open for used double walled steel tanks that had housed oil, heating oil or gas. Typically you can find one in good to V-good condition in the 250 gal size for under $100-. Contact closed "quick lube" companies like Jiffy Lube or Valvoline Quick Lube locations. The tanks will be empty of oil and the land lord who's building is empty would love to get rid of them for $100-.
