Even with examples like Leatherman or Victorinox, I've found most multitools are way worse than having the actual tool needed for the job.  The only thing they having going for them is convenience.  Most are just gimmicky, and that thing just looks that way to me.

$27...... Hmmmm...... I wouldn't tell someone else "No", but that thing isn't for me. My Multitool has a bunch of stuff on it but mine has a HAMMER. If you don't have a Hammer, you'll end up wishing you did. I think I paid about $20 for mine. Was it worth it? Maybe, on a good day.

I've had several cheap multi-tools, and they were all a waste of money. I have friends that swear by Leatherman, I have one and it's ok, but lives in the car as a spare. When I was in the Army, I discovered the Gerber 600 and I've carried one ever since. I have 4 of them, because I don't think they make my exact model anymore, and I plan to have one for the rest of my life. I still have my original, and other than a chipped screwdriver, it's still in perfect functioning condition, and it's the one I still use every day. The best feature is that it will take a standard jigsaw blade- it came with a Remington carbide grit blade that still works perfectly 30-plus years later, I've cut metal, plastic, and even glass with it. My only beef with the thing is the pouch that comes with it is not the greatest, now I carry it in a 3D printed holster that I really like.

So for the $50 or $60 that I paid for it, I've gotten over 30 years of daily use out of it. Cry once and buy the best tools you can possibly afford, or even better.

Mine is a Gerber 600 also.  I bought it a gun show where the guy had 2 used Gerbers.  Deal was made at $50 for both.

It was well used and a bit wobbly on the pivot points so I returned it to Gerber.  It came back with one blade replaced in it and everything else perfect.  No charge.   Lifetime guarantee.

It routinely stays in a belt pouch next to a spare mag. 

Cut a piece of a plastic jug and line the inside of the pouch.  That will prevent the tips of the pliers from rubbing a hole in the pouch.  That has happened on several, including factory issue pouches.

With a 4 inch Crescent wrench it was able to handle 90% of the issues I had to deal with at that campground in GA from 2010 to 2015.  Dayum that was forever ago!  Still does handle near everything.

I've carried Leathermanbrand  tool(s)  all over the world for decades. Having worked in places where tools were either shipped in/Carried in personally, I've found the Leatherman tools an essential fallback when in places where tools were suddenly and deliberately stolen ("You have so much and we have nothing...") and had to assemble entire factory robotic systems with almost no tools plus my Leatherman for the fine work, which was NOT stolen, simply because it was on my belt and at 6'5" I was the largest man in the entire country. Gerber or Victorinox SwissTool  are also prefered by some people YMMV. 

Off brands have never held-up for me, but the Leatherman tools have taken professional level abuse for decades. The only down side with multi-tools generally is that even when they are fine tools, their blade steel has generally been poor, but then again, I am a knife snob, so I generally carry a pocket folder of some kind, in addition to the Leatherman. The quick access folding knife (currently a CQC-11, and in the past my CQC-7) served for mostly peace of mind, should I ever have to hoof it out of the country, and for work like opening boxes, lite dinning tasks and on a very few occasions, for self defence. Most parts of Asia I was in. they understand knives, even smallish folding ones, and backed off quickly upon presentation.

Ps. If I hand to use a Leatherman Tool for self defence, the needle knose pliers would give a TERRIBLE TITTY-TWISTER  !!!

The Gerber 600 is a very good tool. I have used them for years. Unfortunately I have had 2 go bad on me.  I use them in the marine environment and the Gerbers just dont hold up as well as the variety of Leatherman options. The Gerbers rust up quicker and stop working properly with exposure to salt water.  The SS used by Leatherman hold up much better.  I have been through so many because one stays with each PFD and they are constantly exposed to salt water. I have also donated more than one multi tool to Poseiden  .  Leatherman makes a wide variety of models , I personally prefer the Wave model, though there are many different models with different tool sets.

In addition to on my PFDs for work I also keep a multitool on my battle belt (Wave) and as part of my kit in some way. For instance  my chest rig that lives in my car has a Wave.  In my pack (whichever iteration) I have a MUT EOD. Also in my pack I keep a fence plier, useable as a plier, cutter, hammer, and even a weapon. I have used SOG in the past as well and they seem to hold up well.  My last one was donated to TSA  .

For folding knives I carry, pack, just simply rely and beleive in Emerson.  Fixed blades I have a variety from different makes with my current favorites being from Half-Face blades and Bill Coye.

I do believe in getting good quality tools. Seeing how many no name "amazon specials" shit the bed in the marine environment I refuse to even consider them.
