Need a New Leather Gun Belt
« on: March 01, 2013, 01:16:29 PM »
Well the leather belt I bought for my EDC in June for $80- just failed. Yes it was a dress belt; however it was sold to me as a good belt for dress slacks. It is the third belt to fail me in as many years. I guess I should of told the salesman my EDC was a 1911 not a J frame S&W.

Fail = all ripped at the hole in which I use for the buckle.

So my brother swears by Alessi holsters and belts and I own four Galco holsters which continue to impress me. So I can only figure their belts would be good too.

Before I put down $130- to $150- for a gun belt, do any of you have experience with other gun belts?

I'm sold on Tagua.  It is thick and can support 2+lb pistols and you don't even feel the weight.  Belts run about 40 bucks and the holsters run about 50 bucks, but it is money well spent.  If the holster model says it's for a hi-power (for example) it will EXACTLY fit that weapon.  Great craftsmanship.

I use Blackhawks Sherpa holster with a 1911 and it never fails.  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

Other than that I use a dickies belt. Have had the same one for 10 years or so. Looks nice too.

Thank you guys for your input. PLEASE do not take my comments and or questions personal as they are not meant to be. I can be a pistol when I am trying to gather info for a project or a purchase.

1000 Meter, is Taguagu American made? I am looking for 1 1/2"  belt and Taguagu is weak in description.

RvR, I have a Sherpa for my Minute Man rig (Grab and run). I need a leather belt to wear with my casual business clothes that can handle my 1911 EDC.

Mntn, I can not find a 5.11 riggers belt when I google it.

I spoke with the President of Alessi earlier today. He told me he has worn the same belt for 20 years. I asked him what the lead time was and he said 3 months. Spoke with a sales rep at Galco and he told me he has had the same EDC belt from Galco for 8 years and the lead time was three weeks.

My wife gets pissed at me when I look at every different angle before I make a purchase. Thank you for your input...Any other comments or suggestions.

Unfortunately, Tagua is made in Uraguay, but it is old-school leather precision craftsmanship.  (At least it's not China).  My best bud has a belt and holster for his cz-75 and I have a set for my Sig p220.  Like I said, the model you buy fits EXACTLY that weapon.  It is tight at first, but the leather stretches to fit and it tends to mold to your hip over time.

Like Reaver, I rock a Dickies belt, only actual leather non braided belt I could find anywhere. It looked nice when I got it, now it's beat to hell but still hold up like the day I bought it.

I got one of those 5.11 leather belts.. its not leather..

I will say it won't fail physically but visually it will give up the ghost. I do like that the tag in the back holds a handcuff key. That could be handy ;)

Here are a couple of links JM, that I got from guys at "Open Carry .Org." I haven't tried them, but the guys that posted the links seemed to. The first one has a belt (not leather) that has a lifetime warranty.
