They have arrived...
« on: January 26, 2012, 07:39:39 PM »
I would give them back in a heartbeat if I could get my grandfather back.  When he died a couple months ago my grandma said pick any two guns out of his collection.  They came in today:  A springfield Mark I 30'06 with lyman peep sight.  The second was a browning (German-occupation) Hi-power from WW2.  The Hi-Power has all matching serial numbers, zero rust, nazi markings, and is fully functional.  The gun dealer who did the ffl transfer for me offered a large sum of money for the hi-power.  My response was, "it's not for sale, dude."  I don't have the equipment to post pics of them on this site, but they are phenomenal.  I hope to pass them along someday.  Keep it in the family.  Some things are priceless...

Don't worry, they aren't for sale at any price.  I did put one mag through the hi-power and put it away.  Zero problems.  Freakishly accurate that gun is.  I hit all 13 rounds on a cereal box 35 yards away I kid you not.  To shoot a 70-year-old piece of history is awesome.  Wish grandpa Roy was still here to shoot it with me.  He served in the 8th Air Force in WW2.  A lot of his friends and comrades didn't make it back.

No, he was just a mechanic.  He kept B-17's (and later p-51's) patched up and flying.  He commented once he hated seeing the boys leave because some missions 1/3 of them didn't make it back.  1 out of 11 American casualties from WW2 came from the 8th Air force (Army Air corps). :'(
