Taurus Anyone?
« on: February 26, 2012, 08:40:41 PM »
I'm considering a little bit smaller pistol for concealed carry, or a back-up. I like the looks, feel, and features of the Taurus 24/7 G2 Compact. I've heard a lot of negative things about Taurus though. A lot of it was about the customer service. But I've also heard that they've gotten better with customer service and quality. Any advice?

Sorry, the only Taurus I know about is a 357 snub nose my wife picked out.  I'm not sure about the auto's they put out but that little 357 has worked out well for her.

Way too heavy for a CCW. Look at the S&W 637.

The weight of the firearm is a huge contender when trying to conceal it's presence. I've often said that I could hide a 88mm if it weighed 15oz.

I have a S & W 637 and loves it!  Fine piece of craftmanship.  The Smith and Wesson Performance center is something else.

Taurus makes a fair pistol for the price. I've never been overly impressed with their product but have never been disappointed.

Don't miss the point HJ, I think it would make a lousy CCW.

For the weight and money you can have your pick of gently used pistols. This thing is going to get carried not shown right?

Yeah, it would be concealed sometimes. I normally open carry with my Sig 226 worn on the hip. It's a pretty hefty pistol. I'm a pretty big guy, so the weights not as much a consideration as the actual size. When I wear a coat, it helps hide the gun. But if it shows through a little, or sticks out under the coat, that's okay too. I say concealed carry, but also a back-up and when it comes down to it. Probably just an excuse to buy another gun. LOL

I like to keep my CCW in the pocket of my coat or my pants pocket.

That way I just reach into the pocket and get to work, nevermind the powder burn or the fact that I'm going to kill my coat so weight is huge.

If you intend to carry it everyday weight will add or subtract from comfort.. your call dude.

During my time as a gunsmith I have seen quite afew Taurus semi autos .... In my opinion. They are trash. I owned two in my time and both fell apart in my hands I'm not kidding in any way. The whole trigger group snapped and fell out of it.

My general opinion is that Taurus semi-auto's are a lot better than in the past. They have a lifetime warranty. Thought the 24/7 OSS series was a great design, and think the G2 follows that quality. The G2 is a bit big for a backup, but think it could be a decent CC depending on your carry set-up.

I carry a PT92AF as my secondary.

She's got about 2K through her and I cannot remember any malfunctions ever ever.

Also like was said earlier, the warranty on these things is 100% bad ass, and it doesn't follow the owner. It follows the gun. Show me were to find that elseware and I'll support that company as well. That just isn't seen anymore.

My 92 drives tacos man.  The only handgun I own that is more accurate is my S&W 625 and that's a competition handgun sooo....

I own a taurus 24/7 LS in .40 . I love it its a good side arm. But the 24/7 is a lil hvy for conceal carry. The colt comander compact is actually ligter than the 24/7 4 inch. But i do like my taurus as a secondary.

My brother use to CC with a Taurus 1911. He now carries a Charter Arms 44 special.

I CCW a Kinber 1911 and wear it almost all of the time with no weight problems. As I have mentined in the past when I have to semi dress up I carry my wifes Ruger SP101 spurless in my jkt or pant pocket.

Now with that all said, when my brother and I get together he shoots my Kimber instead of either the Taurus or Charter Arms .44 special. He lusts after that handgun.  :))

My PT92 gives me all I need.
Why spend 8 plus on a handgun with tolerances to that are to tight for combat & when it bust (IF) it bust. I can't send it in for a new one or proper free gunsmithing?

No way I'll stick to my $350 investment

why in the hell would i pay over 600 for any handgun when the most reliable most durable handguns in the world only cost 450-550

sig is sexy for sure, but it isnt as good as a glock or M&P and it costs HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS MORE

Maybe its the AK still in me.

Reliability on the cheap. Just seems to make sense to me.

Now that I'm an AR guy maybe I should change over and purchase the most expensive handgun I can find.  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

Yeah i have to say the Taurus line of handguns is really great for the price. If your on a budget you have to look at the Taurus. I don't hear people actually complain about them. Its always my cousins roomate had one and it sucked. I know a few people who have high quality taste in hand guns and they like the Taurus platforms. Are there better guns out there? Of course. But the Taurus stacks right up there with them, until you get into the professional match grade and custom handguns. My 24/7 is accurate, reliable, fully warrantied and affordable. What more does a prepper want. Besides a 1911 gold cup of course!
