Never pick a gunfight from your home or anywhere near it!
You do not want to provoke retaliation when your family is in the firing line!
If you fight from your home you and your family will most likely be killed. Your food and supplies will be taken or destroyed. You also identify yourself and loved ones to the foe.
Get your family out! You are the front watch, you are the rear, you are your family?s vanguard. Their hope, their key to survival. Without you, they will struggle or die. Your family needs you, you need your family.
Only fight to bide time for your family?s retreat. But do this from an area that would force a change in direction by the foe. Suppression is the key to safety if need be. But remember, you are also an important part of the equation to your family. Avoid contact for as long as possible.
Remember! You cannot kill a whole fighting force in the instance of a conventional assault, you will lose! You are outnumbered and out gunned. THEY WILL KILL YOU!
Unless you are militia or some type of resistance in general, you should not be executing offensive maneuvers. Only defensive.

 This is always something that bothers me. Take these words, think about it. Apply it. Tweak it, perfect it.

This is an example of why i advocate a community based plan of action. I cant watch every angle all day every day. No one can. But if you can put together a large enough group you have far more manpower resources available.

If it is the type of WROL I hope its not. Launching assaults will be important.  They just have to be small ones. Hit and run.  Sniper. Ambush & Disappear.
My family will not be anywhere near that unless they are assisting.

Family aside. When it comes to combat on a insurgency level, its always wise to hit and run. If we learnt anything during the Iraq War, its that Guerrilla tactics work!

this is where I'm torn. It's gonna be a one man show for me, I got no team to work with. So there will be no "assaults" for me. 100% defense. it's my only option.

the place where I'm torn is this: what if I receive information that basically tells me that a group of "enemies" is.. lets say.. 1/2 mile away, and as luck would have it, they're occupying a very poor tactical position and it would be like shooting fish in a barrel... do I jump on the opportunity? or do I hold tight at home and hope they go the other way?

I was going to say to get eyes on them without engaging to make sure they go the other way.  But that would leave your family exposed with you not being there.  Of course you do have the dog now.

I've got a S&W that my great grandmother used to protect the homestead while my great grandfather was away at market.  But it just seems women aren't up to that kind of task anymore.  Or maybe men are just more protective.

I think you are going to need to find a way to meet others in NO that you could group with.  Having been to NO I know that might be a problem in the city.  But I do know that there are some country boy types with funny accents outside of NO.  Nice people.

I know this is old but I'm in the same boat as nola. That beimg said if I found out there was an enemy a half mile away and they were in a vulnerable position I would strike hard and strikes fast maybe even bring my 9 year old with me for anything else suppressive fire. keeping bad guys away from my family would be my main objective remember the best defense is a good offense.
