Naked and Afraid pisses me off
« on: May 16, 2022, 03:07:50 AM »
The Wife likes to watch Naked and Afraid and I watch it with her sometimes. However, I always get pissed off at the So Called Survivalist who participate. The first thing I look for is the Nose rings and such, just to see if they some kind of crazy weirdo.  Then I look to see if they have brains enough to make some type of shoes or foot protection. Then I watch to see how they use their fire starters. Tonight, I just got up and stopped watching because both of the idiots tried and failed to use them correctly. Why is it that they don't realize that the body of the Firestarter is made of Magnesium and you are supposed to scape off a pile of Magnesium and then use the Flint striker to fire up the Magnesium? What the Hell do they think that big chunk of metal is for, maybe a handle? That Magnesium burns at about 3000 degrees F. Even though I keep a cigarette lighter handy, I always carry one of those striker fire starters in my fanny pack. If I listed every item in my everyday carry fanny pack, you would think I was a liar. I won't list all those items because Big Brother doesn't need to know what I carry. I will say that there is something to eat, small packets of Salt/Pepper/ small bottle of hand sanitizer that is great for starting a fire due to the high alcohol content, Handi-talkie with many extra batteries, Clip on body cam, a pack of Cigarettes, several cough drops and those little compact paper things that when you get them wet they expand and can be unfolded into a nice wipe for whatever you need, a Needle and heavy duty Waxed thread, A very bright and strong Flashlight with 2 extra Lithium batteries for it, extra AA and AAA Alkaline batteries. Handheld GPS device, one ounce Silver round, blah, blah, blah, and so on. All I need to find is a source of water. No, I don't keep my pocket knife in my fanny pack. I keep it in my front pants pocket. Last but not least, I would never go on that show as a CONTESTANT because I think they are all crazy.

Never saw it. My time is just to valuable.  :dancingBanana:

As a side not and has a similar theme to PKv's post, MrsMac and I went to see Joe Jackson Friday night.

We arrived at our seats a bit early so we had an opportunity to 'people watch'. Based on what I saw and how "they" interacted with other folks, in a SHTF scenario the vast amount of these folks will not survive 30-days.

I agree with both of you.

I do watch Naked and Afraid for the primary fun of it.  There are few things on TV nowadays I have interest in.   I have occasionally learned a thing or 2 on that show.  I much preferred the old (discontinued) Dual Survival.  I learned much and confirmed many things on that one.

As far as the 30 days, thats why I make sure we keep at least 90 days foodstuffs in our kitchen cabinets and another 90 (probably closer to 120 or 150 days) in other storage places.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

God created Man, Col. Sam Colt made him equal, John Moses Browning turned equality to perfection, Gaston Glock turned perfection into plastic fantastic junk.

"Naked and Afrid"       Hmmm, sounds like when my Ex and I went on honeymoon.
