Larry Vickers and the modernized AK
« on: January 27, 2012, 12:39:00 PM »
I'm an AR owner......and I think this is dumb.

There are too many, "if you don't do x then y shouldn't happen" in there.  Also, the 5.56 may be a little more plentiful here, but 7.62 is still cheaper and until they stop shipping it here, is just as available.

Also, in converting it to 5.56, mags will be more expensive, the bolt and other parts are not interchangeable (therefore more expensive), and I'm sure you'll have to fork up more for the initial price of the gun.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

P.S. If I'm wrong, let me know.

Reliability and knock-down power.....according to the LAV, both were gone on this particular AK. I dunno exactly how the NATO 5.56 cartridge makes it more unreliable, but it sure makes it harder to get the job done, especially from an SBR.

I believe that the AK is much more useful as a SBR. Taking the 7.62 out of the AK is a. Stupid idea. Somethings are best left alone. This IS one these times.

If he was going to play around with caliber selection shoulda stuck with 5.45x39. Its more or less the russin equivalant of 5.56. Cool otherwise though

I do well enough with my "UNTACTICOOL" "UNENHANCED" AK in 7.62 x 39.  The only thing I did was add a sling, flash-hider, and '550 cord.  It's a reliable shooter.
