No Bread
« on: June 08, 2022, 05:20:09 PM »
Uh Oh..... I went to the Family Dollar Store today and there was NO BREAD and NO ICE CREAM.  I keep hearing and/or seeing something about June 22. I haven't quite figured out the June 22nd thing but whatever it is its supposed to be bad. I'm starting to get a little bit pissed off at the folks with normalcy bias because you can bet your last Dollar that they'll be the first ones to show up wanting a food handout. So far, the only thing I am hearing from people is their griping about high prices. They don't seem to notice that a lot of items are getting scarce. Last week, I went to the Food Lion and there wasn't a single 12 pack of Coca Cola in the whole store. They did have 3 cartons of 24 packs so I bought 2 of them. Now they only have one. I honestly think its going to take a hard punch to the face for people to wake up. :chuky:

I would be more upset about no ice cream, but no bread is serious too.

As I've written before, normalcy bias kills.

Currently on "Nutri-Systems" diet to lose weight (have shed 12 of the targeted 35+ #s so far).   Which means _no bread_ (to speak of)
Back in the day, I consumed homemade bread, good, healthy, _cheap_ stuff (if you buy main ingredients in bulk at the co-op).
Looks to me like my treasured bread bowls are going to come out of retirement in the foreseeable future, whatever my "weight".
There is something "Zen" about working dough by hand, watchin it rise and smelling product in the oven. ... gonna need a sourdough starter too - and the little crock pot home for it to live in too!
"primitive life" can be "hard", yes I have a clue.    But it can also be good, very good, this I know from the past, hope to share this fact with the young'uns who have never used a rotary dial phone and would find a "standard clutch" to be a theft prevention device.

My first 12 years were growing up on a farm with my grandparents and they were very old school. We had a wood stove for cooking and a wood stove for heat and no telephone or TV. We did have a Radio that we listened to programs on at night. We also had a Gas stove for cooking but it was never used except for cooking a turkey on Thanksgiving. It was very rare that Grandma baked bread. 90% of the time she made biscuits or some form of cornbread. Damn!!! Those biscuits were as heavy as lead but I ate them with my meals. I have a bunch of flower and cornmeal in my prepping supplies just in case I can't get store bought, "Light Bread" or as we sometimes called it, "Sliced Bread". :cowboy:

I remember buying "sliced bread" a time for 42million when I was a kid.  We had electric ovens and such but still had to buy that stuff.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.
