I have several dozen feet of roof drain pipe.  Its about 3" by 4" steel rectangle roof guttering downspout pipe.  The one I have used was about 16" long.

If you want an underground fire I suggest this method of maintaining an air supply.

Yeps.  I use the gutter pipe to maintain the air hole.

Weight is a non-issue, just like hole collapse.

We built this one a few years ago just as an experiment, for either boiling sap or heating large quantities of water/melting snow. Also made a pretty spectacular campfire, without a pot on top the flames would shoot up 2 or 3 feet. Barrel is full of wood ash to insulate the pipe.
