Looking For Real-Time Spectrum Scope Software
« on: December 02, 2022, 11:17:11 AM »
I own a Kenwood TS-590S transceiver which I am happy with. I almost sold it though so I could buy a Icom IC-7300 with a real-time spectrum scope waterfall function which the 7300 has one the front of its transceiver.

I was thinking that there must be a program that you can install on your computer to interface between the radio and computer that serves the same function.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thx

Ham Radio Deluxe will do it but the last time I checked, they wanted $100 for the program. Its a rig control program and It also comes with DM780(Digital Master 780) which has most of the digital modes.

Thank you PKv.

I think I am going to sell my TS-590S and get a newer SDR radio. Looking at the FTdx 10.

If I were going to do what you're asking, I'd buy a cheep SDR dongle and tap into one of the I.F. trains inside the receiver  BEFORE the I.F. filters.  Then, you could use virtually any of the SDR freeware out there, like SDR# (SDT Sharp) set it for 'DIRECT SAMPLING' , tune it to the I.F. frequency and watch your spectrum on the large computer monitor.  That way you have the excellent Kenwood transceiver AND a "Fish Finder" thingie in the shack.

Thx Sir John.

I am thinking it might be time to buy a new radio. There are other things that I want my transceiver to do besides the waterfall.

My TS-590s can do it all BUT, I have to buy a whole bunch of accessories to make do the things that a newer version like the IC-7300 or FTdx10 can do.

My TS-590s is a GREAT radio. It would be perfect for a newbie or someone that wants to add a top notch radio to their prepping supplies. I already have a bunch of backup so it is time to put this on the block.
