Flu Theorem

Ok......

Let me start off by saying that I am a significantly educated jack of all trades. Does not mean that I am an expert. Yet I wish to say that many times than not my predictions come true.

OK..... so lets get to a subject that I hold high on my threat matrix. The dreaded "Flu".

Now hear me out on this.

Not to long ago, there was a significant scare associated with "Swine Flu". To be honest I was happy to see that our societies were taking this seriously. I had hoped the this would cause a significant shift in awareness. Yet once again I have been disappointed. All that happened is that people tuned out the dangers of the Flu.

Now to the Theorem.......

Swine flu was less of a danger to the human population due to the fact that swine are relatively close to humans biologically. What this means is that a pathogen that develops in swine will not be completely alien the the human immune system. Thus the impact results in less death and easier vaccine development.

Now let us look at the Avian Flu. The Spanish Flu kicked us in the balls big time. Currently as I write this, there are significant outbreaks of Avian Flu in poultry flocks all over the place. The avian biology is significantly different from human biology. So the end result is that once an Avian Based Virus mutates enough to infect humans. Then the SHTF. The reason for this is quite simple. Since the Avian Flu evolved in an Avian Biology, the Human Immune System will be forced to fight something that is completely alien.

During the flu epidemic of the 1917-19's; My grandmother told me that she use to sit on her front door step and count the hearses going by just to help pass the time with her friends. She was 15 or so at the time.

Erick who contributes to this forum at times, works in the disaster field, keeps telling me that a financial collapse is at a lower probability vs. a pandemic of some sort being the SHTF event that makes the world go ape-shit.

Add to that the raised nuclear fallout hitting the west coast of Oregon, Washington and Vancouver Island, Canada from Fuskanowa, Japan.

Just let it develop as a non-airborne virus.  A fast furious burn in the major cities, yeah, I can see that.  Let it have about a 40% fatality rate, I can see that.

Talking about pandemic: MrsMac and I stayed all winter up at the cabin and neither one of us got a cold or the flu.

What did we do:

> I did not work in a closed environment work space with a bunch of other folks,
> Washed our hands every time we got home from a visit outside the redoubt,
> Popped 3,000 iu's a day of D3,
> Ate a lot of food from our garden in the usual 1/3-1/3-1/3 ratio of; veggies, starch and protein,
> In my case, drank alcohol in moderation - Many days going without a drink. When I did drink it was mostly my hard
   cider or wine,
> Didn't take a shower every single day. Tended to take one 2-3 times a week, and
> When invited to peoples houses for the holidays - If anyone in their family was sick, we made excuses and didn't
    accept the invitation.

Similarly, the previous winter (2013-14) we did not get the flu either - Only a very mild cold. Lasted each of us, about a day. We followed a similar regiment.

How did you fare?

Must be the opposite.  If you were good looking the viruses would want to come multiply in you hoping some of your genes could be stolen and they made good looking.   You said they did not, so  . . ..  I will just leave it at that.  Someone say worn out mud tire or some such?  Thought I heard noise over thataway?
