West Coast Shipping Shut Down

It appears that the west coast shipping ports are shut down or severely hindered in off loading products from Asia due to a strike.

The Pacific Maritime Association, which represents ocean carriers and port of , blamed "coordinated and disruptive work actions" for the halt, saying in a statement Saturday that the International Longshore and Warehouse Union refused to dispatch any longshore workers to container terminals during the first shift of the day. - Daily Breeze

This news affects more than the obvious, imports, it also affects exports to Asia. Specifically, farm produce.

Depending on the length of this shutdown, inflation rates will rise and the already fragile economy will take a hit.

Some American food items, primarily grains followed by critters, we could see a short lived reduction on items at the store. Might be a golden opportunity to fill your food prep holes.

By the way...Have you heard about this on the MSM news? I haven't. Ran across it by accident.

West Coast ports locking themselves down?
Wow!   Am I glad I planted an even bigger garden this year!
Those "I told you so's" we've held inside us?
It's now only a matter of when, not if we can toss the lot of them onto tables of the weak, the willfully ignorant, the hungry.     
Let us not toss pearls to the swine.  Nor be petty.
But pray our "hard hearts" save as much good as is granted the possibility of within our reach.

Glad the family tree branch decided to run out an extra 40 steers back a few months ago.  Beef prices were high enough (to him) to make them worth the extra work. 

Bet they will be very worth it on a plate.  Most if there is nothing else beside it.

Wow!   That's a lot of ships!    Got a real nice network running, be a shame if sumptin was to happen that they couldn't unload somewheres...
Multiple fires igniting at same time across Quebec, another work stoppage at major port, and let's see... a truck loaded with fuel happens to burn at a choke-point, closes major artery and they can't find hide nor hair (nor apparently any bones) of the driver so the authorities can "identify the truck".     ???
And with the southern border wide open, perfect opportunity to infiltrate and stage sleeper teams...
Oh boy howdy, it's a fix'n to be a hot time in the old corral tonight.
(and offers up for consideration, one method for cutting off a supply line to blue urban strongholds...)

Longshoremen _used_ to make good money if the Sea-Land union guys is Kodiak were any measure (the only personal knowledge I have on that score, now some 45+ years stale)
So.
Quick Google sez:
How much does a Longshoreman make in Long Beach, CA? 
"The average Longshoreman salary in Long Beach, CA is $67,109 as of May 25, 2023, but the salary range typically falls between $60,541 and $74,154."
Honestly, in that location, those guys are sucking fumes - and ripe for union attempt at trying for better.
Then too, let's look at the Railroad brotherhoods (unions) - engineers have a truly sucky deal - "look it up" if you doubt - another choke point rip for union hostage taking.
So _why_ would the "powers-that-be" put the grind on these workers?
Profits?   OK
But how about a relatively short term squeeze to, you guessed it, destabilize everything to grease the skids for "change, "reset".    After which, the brothers can bunk together at work site and _maybe_ leave the perimeter once in awhile, hinging on good performance and behavior.

To add to the coming pain, there are draft restrictions on the panama canal due to drought in the lakes that feed the locks. Supply shocks are coming, again.

POTUS will use executive order to squash strike and force mediation like Reagan did w air traffic controller.

Ports are considered essential to national economy and thus national defense.

Dems won?t risk it getting out of hand w elections approaching. They reign in the unions if necessary. Just stay w your plan and prep forward

I do not disagree with your thoughts Deathstyle. That is the logical road.

Maybe even use it as a propaganda story. Build up the strike and Biden swoops in to save the day. Old poopy pants needs some good press.

Looking at the other end of the spectrum, the strike continues and supply chain starts to hurt you and I. At that time, BLM Inc. and ANTIFA are released from the kennel to start another summer of peace.

Which scenario best helps old PPOTUS?

Only time will tell.

One thing (ok, several things) for sure...
Our existential enemies apparently believe (as they are behaving) that their interests can outlast ours in a prolonged downturn.
Secondly, this bespeaks a complete lack of empathy or care for "the little guy".
Get in their way?   You are prime candidate for label of "roadkill".
Yup.
Buy those extra jars of peanut butter you hadn't focused on (I hadn't, anyway, will "mediate" that deficiency next trip into town).
It's time to test our preps against the "best guessed" scenarios.
Go ahead, turn your main breaker off for a few days see how the flow works for you and report back...
And don't be afraid to ask neighbors if they've ANY surplus stocks of food/preps out away.   Of course they are under no obligation to break established security protocols - but their answers might be of value.   Might even hint at who you're going to have to keep an eye on _and deal with_ later.

Just received an email from my butcher that our half a steer will be ready by the end of July. He asked for a "cut sheet".

Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

Still don't have a solar system to run well pump, a freezer and C-pap at night - 250 gallons of propane and 10k generator is only line of defense: noisy, fuel finite, machines can break down.

Time short, money shorter - will  race be won/lost?    Photo finish?    God (only) knows.
