Head Of NATO Tells EU Citizens To Get Ready For War
« on: January 21, 2024, 09:50:12 PM »
Interesting.

Quote
Western militaries, as well as civilians, need to be prepared for an 'all-out war' with Russia that may significantly affect their lives, Britain's Sky News reported on Jan. 19, citing Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, chairman of the NATO Military Committee. - Yahoo

The here is a short YT video from Travis over at The Prepared Homestead worth listening too.

Yes, at least the UK, Germany and Sweden are on this theme.  Key phrases are the 'end of Cold War' 2.0 and we have entered into "pre-war".  The last bit from the UK MOD head.  Sobering stuff.

Keep gas tanks full, split and stack firewood and now is the time to acquire what might not be available if the sea/air lanes are shut down - at the very least. Amazon and delivery methods might grind to a halt. Postal Service (such as it is...) will probably continue to trundle along, so KEEP A PAPER RECORD of friends and family so that, should digital communications services fail, you can write an old fashioned letter. It would be prudent to assume multi-layered cyber attacks and the almost total certainty of terror cells within our country to go active, though it seems that some have already done so - perhaps amateur socialists or someone showing 'what WE can do to you...".

Now, back to my morning coffee and tobacco,

Sir John Honeybucket

Ps. The good news about most 'off grid' preps, you will eventually eat, drink or smoke them, so it's not a waste.  If you eat that tinned bully beef 5 years from now, you're eating at lower prices, despite the years of currency inflation... food for thought.

Over period of months, I've stockpiled salted butter in the fridge, buying "extra" on normal runs to the grocery store.  Tomorrow looks to be a snotty snow day so this is when I will can all of the stockpile.
Think New Zealand's "Red Feather" canned butter.    Shelf stable like all properly canned foods, quality remaining high much longer than usual lifespan of "fats and oils" in general.

At a EOTWAWKI, the (also long-lived) flour I have becomes fresh baked bread.   Slathered with butter.   Need for becoming a cannibal, reduced.
AND, as mentioned, "cheap" compared to what ever might (or might not) be available at the currency devalued, inflation ravaged prices already baked into future breads.

Felix,

Yes and agreed.  In our home, , as you mentioned, if shopping for one can of food, we buy three. That's good for when company arrives or when an unfortunate surprised does; like when I was very badly injured at work and suddenly had bills but no income; tinned beef, Indian spices, canned ghee and a huge bag of aged Basmati rice kept us WELL fed.  Oh and, Vietnamese coffee...  What some might consider 'survival' we called the delicacy of fine Indian cuisine. Add to that, having lived among Mormons for decades, we have a small amount of various whole grains sealed away (Spelt being my favorite) and a hand grinder: exercise AND easy to prepare wholesome breads and pastas which stores virtually forever. Most people would look at whole grain and not even consider those 'seeds' to be food, because it 'doesn't look like McDonald's '. Then, there is the actual seed bank and hand tools for the garden.

Sir John,
To add to your list of preps:
Update paper copies of your financial, ownership, tax, or anything legal.
A serious event will undoubtedly include a strong cyber attack.

Great idea DM.

Funny thing, one of the things I did yesterday, I hane't a clue as to why, I dragged out all my battel rattle and inspected it. One plate carrier, I am going to switch from 5.56 mag holders to 7.62 holders. I need a load out for my AR-10.
