PDF: http://start.umd.edu/start/publications/research_briefs/LaFree_Bersani_HotSpotsOfUSTerrorism.pdf

from 1970-2008

one interesting thing to point out is that according to the study, the total number of recorded "terrorist attacks" from 1970-2008 as broken down by political ideology:

far left-wing attacks: 339

Good catch.  The numbers are even higher than that and DHS uses a little slight of hand to reduce the far left wing attacks by calling them crime instead of terrorism.  As an example when Joe Stack flew his plane into the IRS building in Austin the administration called it a terrorist attack until it surfaced that Stack was a registered Democrat and his manifesto read heavily of Marxist leanings and support of federal healthcare legislation.  At that point it was investigated as a "as a criminal matter of an assault on a federal officer".

Alright I reread the report and it's fucking stupid.

"Whereas the 1970s were characterized by terrorist attacks motivated by extreme left-wing and ethno-national/separatist ideologies, the 1980s saw the emergence of religiously motivated terrorism; while right-wing terrorism was prevalent during the 1990s, the most recent decade has been dominated by single issue attacks."

WTF?  The only way they could make that conclusion is by calling a mule a zebra.  2000 to 2012 has seen the largest rise in religious based terrorism since the turn of last century when we were fighting in the Philippines.
