Review - Cold Camp by Timj
« on: January 11, 2022, 09:15:07 PM »
Many moons ago the owner of UWGEARINC shared with me a great 'sleeper' novel called, "Cold Camp" written by TimJ.

First a word about John Ammons, the owner of UW Gear Inc. Bar non, his company makes the best gear on the market. He isn't the fastest, mine took 6-months to get however, the quality is outstanding. He also offers a 100% guarantee which is unheard of in the industry.

I first met Ammons at a two-day media event held by Palmetto Armory four years ago. He was representing his YouTube channel  Alapha Charlie Concepts while I was representing American Partisan. During this get-together Ammos and I, swapped a few stories and beers. One of the things I got a tip on was this unpublished novel titled, "Cold-Camp"written by TimJ. Attached to this review is the PDF.

The story is about an economic collapse within the United States. The country is divided not unlike today - Blue & red states. The hero lives in Blue Connecticut with a hunting cabin retreat in Red New Hampshire. The story is about his trek through Blue State Massachusetts to his in-laws Blue State home in Connecticut to recuse them from President Billary (yes you read that correctly) edicts and persecution. Then his return back to New Hampshire.

The book is a page turner and I have read it many times. I liked it so much, the PDF lives on my cell phone to read when I have free time while on the road. I would rate this book a 4.5 on a JohnyMac scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being Outstanding.

I wish I knew what happened to the author as this book went public in 2006. I would have loved another from TimJ.

Enjoy and it is free.  ;)

Oh, I am SO sending this to my Kindle.  Thanks for the mini-review and what a relatable topic.

This is a VERY good read.  Reading these types of novels is good food for thought.  Look at your storage food, seeds and HAM RADIO plans in light of what these characters are going through and consider whether present plans and methods are suitable in grid down / backpack mobile operations - or not. This matches my actual experiences as a field communicator amd is why I emphasize CW/Morse code for message passing, to eliminate the need for tactical computing.

It's a thought.

In James Rawles book Survivors, the sequel to Patriots, the main character of the book uses an Elecraft Kx2 to communicate from Germany to family in New Mexico. The top end power on the Kx2 was 12-watts (I think) and he used a mini bug to tap out his messages.

I learned last week that Timj passed away the second week of January 2022. I did not ask what the cause of death was. When you die you are dead.
