State Forums.......please?
« on: October 09, 2011, 06:01:48 AM »
The "State Forums" was one of the best things about the old LNL site.  I've been told that something similar exists here but is in the "VFW", "behind closed doors."   THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE EXISTENCE OF A PRIVATE SECTION ON THIS FORUM. :'(  But, it makes no sense to have "State Forums" not available to us lowly public.  There needs to be a "State Forums" somewhere on the top page of the forum.

*Warning Bad Attitude Ahead*

We got 130 members Special-K, as far as I can tell we probably don't need state forums just yet. Now if you wanted to bring 25 guys from your state to the board then I would be happy to make you a section but you haven't even filled out your profile page.

p.s. you are not the first person to suggest this in the open forum..

while the state forums is a good idea in theory i think mroe often then not it goes unused... on the old forum we had a states area and i tried contacting several people in my area through PM's and it was all for nothing... youll come to find out most people are flakes and this is more of a fantasy thing than a reality they prepare for. also like TG said we dont have enough members to make it useful. there would be more time spent cleaning cob webs in it then therew would be typing in it.

As Ken was saying there just isn't a need yet. Trust me we are holding off on alot of changes because of our low memebership numbers.

The special titles also mean nothing now that we have closed the VFW Hall, people couldn't handle their drink so the bar got closed.

AllShallParish you are a fucking stud. 70 hour work weeks! I've been there and done that, don't feel bad about not having time. If you aren't falling asleep on the road you are doing good.

I can set up any kind of boards you guys might want to see, in fact just to clear the air the state boards are going up tonight.   But I'm not making 50 catagories, etc.  I'm going to open a new section for states, and if it sucks its because it will be the memberships obligation to populate them.  Here is a suggestion:  Don't just put meet and greet stuff in there, post stuff your state would find interesting.

I guess it's pretty standard online forum; complaints of the "lowly peasants" type stuff, no big deal. I've been around on the intrawebz long enough to know that it's gonna happen. I don't feel as though we should auto-terminate any ideas on how to make this forum more organized and efficient. As it stands it's lacking a little in the organization and substance department. But I do also realize that the majority of that fault lies on the members. The last substantial post IMO for our community was made by whiskey this morning; and other than that there are long gaps in between community input and resources. I've been in the midst of composing a few pieces for these forums, and 70 hour work weeks make it a little hard. I'm also debating whether or not it would be well received to the point where it would be worth the time and effort; or would they get tossed aside to the depths of the archives; because ZOMBIES are more important subject matter. Anyways, I only have 53ish posts so I guess I'm just a guy pissin' in the wind at this point.  <img src="http://www.smileydes

I agree we need more substance.  And it's coming little by little.  Don't discount Zombies, ie the infected sick people who are probably gonna cause more deaths than anything else after tshtf.  Look what happened to the Mayans in a generation, or to Europe during the black plague.  Once a germ or virus takes hold after tshtf Zombies (walking sick people) are going to worry you quite a bit.

yes we need more substance...but were only average people... we will never have a forum full of amazing tricks of the trade... we do what we can.. truth be told were just a bunch of concerned americans putting our heads together. we do have strokes of genious every now and again but i dont think we can expect thread after thread of amazing substance. were just average joes. atleast i am... maybe i shouldnt speak for the whole forum.

Well, frankly I'm embarrassed to tell where I'm living.....but I went ahead and filled out that part of my profile (but with an addendum).  I hate this f'n city.....don't get me started.  I'd probably have better luck meeting fellow preppers across the river in Kentucky.

What's wrong with Ohio.  I know some good people from there.  Heck of a lot better than Rhode Island.  Just speaking from experience.  No offense meant to any RI folks.

Get it all out there AllShall.  Is it really possible that the vast majority really don't see what's coming?  Or do they just live one day at a time, moment to moment, and are just going to accept their fate and make the best of it?

I don't know the answer to that question.  I think some are waking up a little at a time.  But I have to agree with AllShall that it's sort of frustrating to know there are so many unprepared people who could care less.

I guess it is what it is.  At least a few will have a chance if they aren't overwhelmed by the hungry masses.

My guess; the majority of the people just think that prepping is "cool" *mostly aimed at the 'I'll prep lots of guns ammo and gear and I'll be fine' but they forget that they need food, water and other shit*. They see videos on YT an then want to mimic that shit, but don't even realize that they fucking need water and food, most likely because that is 'boring' to them.

I currently reside in Illinois, but up until a few years ago I lived in Ohio, was born there, once a Buckeye always a Buckeye. If anyone is embarrassed about the state in which they live it should be me,lol.

It seems like this community has turned into a fucking hobby for most people. Our blogtv sessions for example, we'll get 16 core members and not really even feel like we're accomplishing anything. I'm just as guilty of this as anyone else, so nobody take me wrong. I'd be willing to bet my multi-tool that if 505th and TG for example; organized a meet and greet with a range session or something; all expense payed trip...that the only people that would show would be that 16ish core member list. It's fucking absurd. I'm starting to feel like not only is 97% of this country asleep...but most of the "preppers" are in reality basement commandos who do it as a goddamn fantasy hobby.

I feel the same way, ASPJ. I've wondered why others don't comment on a regular basis. I try to post regularly if only to interact with everyone here, because outside of this online community there are only two other people I can talk to about prepping, and I rarely see them at all. Everyone else may listen politely, but they roll their eyes, laugh, etc. I expect that, but personally I need the interaction with other like-minded people. One major way I get motivation is by calling (and meeting!) other preppers now, preppers who I met here or on L&L, and we talk on the phone. It may just be about the same shit as on the forum or on BlogTV, but it's different when you're speaking to someone directly. Without the forums here, and the great topics that allow us to communicate and get to know one another, we wouldn't have this opportunity.

I don't consider myself much of a prepper, since all I really manage to do is talk either on here or BlogTV about moral, historical or political aspects of current or theoretical situations. I don't have the hands-on experience regarding outdoors activities, farming/gardening, or shooting to contribute anything meaningful that other members don't already know. I also cannot make vids or take pics showing what I'm accumulating and giving/getting feedback because, as of the past 3 years, I've been a full-time student/stay-at-home father without an income. Hopefully that will change very soon, but right now I don't have the ability to prep even basic foodstuffs and we're living paycheck to paycheck.

I wonder how many other members are like me, and would love to contribute, but cannot because regarding skills or experiences involved in prepping we lack the ability to convey useful knowledge or express a desire to learn in order to revise what we're doing. I'll explain the latter: personally, there is a lot of good info here already that I cannot process just because I can only process so much information before I need to go out and do it myself. After doing it, I've increased my experience and knowledge base, and can come back refreshed and ready for more. Outside of struggling with getting into proper physical shape, and maybe some inside drills, there really isn't a lot I can do that would contribute to our forum. I think, no, I know from speaking with a few of these guys that others are in similar situations. Your contributions, and those of other members, are always appreciated by me. I bookmark the ones I think will benefit me at a future time, so that I can come back when I have more money/time/experience and use the information to help me. In doing so, I can provide feedback to your thread about the pros/cons of the info, or just more questions.
