My experience with BLM Law enforcement
« on: February 03, 2012, 11:45:06 AM »
So ive been trying to get a straight answer on wether or not a certain area of BLM land is legal to shoot on because ive had local sherriffs harrass me in the past and flat out say "your aloud to shoot here but we dont want you too". so ive left several messages with 2 different officers and never recieve a call back. every time i leave a message i have to go through the operater lady. and she seems to harrass me every single time i call trying to keep me fom leaving another message. so today i call and get the "oh its you again".. "i heard the sherriffs said they dont want you shooting there" and i said "the sherriffs flat out told me i can legally but they dont want me too" and she said "well we follow what they say" and i said "so now the laws mean nothing and the guy with the gun makes the laws as he goes?" ... next thing she says is "why dont you give me your REAL full name and number and ill hand it straight to the chief" ... so i did of course...

Its a total breakdown of the system and even with all this fus i was unable to speak with a field guy and instead will be sent right to the chief to be given some BS political answer. but whats even sadder is its easy to get to speak to the field guys when your doing something wrong theyll be right there to catch your ass...they just dont want to tell you what wrong is until after you do it.

I would've went down and talked to the sheriff in the first place. I had this issue with silencers here. Now, granted the sheriff still won't sign it still, but he did tell me where to go and encouraged me to open carry a couple times in the conversation. Problem being as I told him, I'd love to open carry, but the cops aren't taught shit about it. So if they see me they're likely to draw and tell me to get on the ground. He kind'a laughed at that like "Yeah, probably." Don't waste your time on the phone though. Maybe you'll get a straight answer now, but it's a lot easier to say "no" over the phone than face to face/ man to man.

What the sheriff "wants" is irrelevant.  His job is to enforce the law, period.  Not shape public policy.  He should do no more, mo less than uphold the law.  Check out Robocop's prime directives.  It should be a simple as that. [img]http://www.smileydesign.n

So if she "heard the sheriff's don't want you shooting there" then she has already heard a conversation over the matter.  I would have asked the sheriff's why they didn't want me shooting there on BLM land if it was legal to do so?

I suspect they don't want anyone shooting anywhere.   Or for anyone else to be carrying a gun for that matter.

I don't know how far the BLM office is from you.  There's one here about 25 miles away.  If it's close enough you might make a trip down there and talk to them.

I was shooting a couple of years ago with a friend on his undeveloped property in Fellsmere (JM might know where that's at.)  Some one must have called the Sheriff because two cars showed up.  They wouldn't even come out into the woods.  LOL!  The only way we knew they were there was because we heard them give their sirens a Woop, Woop, Woop.  We went out to the road where they were and answered their questions.  After wanting to know what we were shooting they said alright, just be careful.  They hung out for about an hour but left before we were finished.

@ sledge- i think she knew the sherriff had told me not to shoot there because in a previous conversation with a more local office i told her... then later when directed to the main office where the LEO's hang out i told her who i was told to call there station by... so im sure this lady went out of her way to gain as much info on me as possible to help her in keeping me from speaking with law enforcement. its 100% clear to me that they dont want anyone shooting on any of our PUBLIC land by the simple fact that two seperate officers with their own personal message inboxes have ignored all my messages. i think its just standard protocall for them to just ignore people like me as much as possible.. clearly thats the situation because after all the BS i got sent directly to the chief who is more savvy and capable of making people like me go away. even though the regular officers are in the same damn building as the operater lady and she could just walk down the hall and tell them to pickup the damn phone already. they need to be reminded that they work for me.
