Extra ammo
« on: April 13, 2021, 09:18:57 PM »
I think its probably obvious that anybody who carries, probably has at least one extra mag. I was wondering if anybody besides me also keeps extra rounds in the car? I don't go all stupid crazy but I do keeps extra rounds. I don't think about needing them for some kind of prolonged firefight but I have a big survival box in the car and if I'm ever stranded out in the middle of nowhere, I think I'm going to need to hunt for food and a handgun isn't going to be as accurate as a long gun so I plan to miss my target a lot more than I would than if I had a rifle. Yep there is a two man tent back there also.

PKv, yes I do. Never really thought about it. I have .22LR for barter, and handgun, 9mm or 40S&W depending on what handgun I am sporting.

In addition to a spare ammo kit for edc there is always a .22 cal. AR-7 rifle (hidden back under truck seat) and a pile of ammo.  A sling bag with varying contents depending on season and the paracord grenade kit is always there also.   Among other things.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

Good stuff gents.

A couple weeks ago I pulled out my "get home bag" and made some adjustments primarily to reduce weight. One of the things I removed was M.R.E's. I replaced them with freeze dried meals from Packet Gourmet Gourmet.

I am a big favorite of Pinnacle Foods freeze dried meals too. However, when I repacked my GHB they had minimal items in stock as they were moving their kitchen. Their Teriyaki Chicken with Garlic Asparagus and Coconut Rice's is to die for.

Anyway, I am also looking for a new economical backpack as the 5.11 50-L bag is really not designed to walk great distances with it on ones back. This one is what I am waiting for to come back into stock.

When the new back pack arrives I will post my GHB and hopefully you will also.

Funny Nemo that you just mentioned the AR-7 survival rifle. I just ordered one and for the exact reason you own one.

Yours is a Henry.  Mine is a Charter Arms.  IIRC I have had it about 40 years.

Regarding those food packs, take a look at the Sodium content of those things.  Many I have seen have near the max daily dose in a single serving.  Might want to be careful.

Oh absolutely Nemo and Mountain House is the worse. I forget which one but I was out with a friend and he had a mountain House pasta dish that had twice the daily recommended sodium according to the Nutrition Facts on the package. He asked me if I had any salt & Pepper as the meal was a bit bland. I told him I didn't have any salt (Even though I did) and gave him the pepper shaker I always carry.

Keep in mind, if you have to hit the road to get home after a drama, sodium is good for folks that are walking all day with a heavy pack on. It's the old adage, drink a lot of water.

All good stuff Brother!

The best thing about MRE's is you can open and eat, no prep needed although they taste much better warmed up. Depending on the situation you may not have the ability or opportunity to prep your food

As far as the salt content, work up a sweat and you will get rid of the excess salt quickly.
When I want to cut down on bulk for food, I carry 1 pound bags of jack links jerky, no mess or cooking needed.
Not going to live for a month from it but easy to carry, stays fresh a good long time and instantly ready to eat.

Extra Ammo is like when someone asks you if you have an extra cigarette and you say, "Nope, there was only 20 in this pack." :lmfao:

"What is extra ammo?"

Definitely a penetrating question.

Oh, and I'll admit... two "high capacity magazines" rest comfortably in the odds-and-ends drawer below my work bench.
'Cuz ya just never know whutcha don't know.  Or where you'll be when ya find out.

OK, now all you guys that have extra ship it to me.  I'll cover cost.  I just want "enough".  I will have you stop sending when I get there.  I don't need "extra".

Shower Guns

Of course we are talking stainless steel here.   But more to the point...
Are you ready to fight naked?
Going to battle in the buff does has its ancient precedence.
However.
In modern times, we mostly see the babes in mud-wrestles, sans sartorial complement.
Me?   I throw the secondary deadbolt when in doubt and hope for the best.

Look at Gregory, Osprey, Mt Hardwear, and Mystery Ranch.  Some of those can get pricey but can be found on sale or clearance at REI, Moosejaw, etc.
Here is a really good one. https://www.rei.com/rei-garage/product/190106/gregory-stout-45-pack-mens  I use an older model of this pack that is going on 15 years old and is still going strong. I have used in all along the Appalachians as well as all over Utah, on Ranier and Hood, etc. The other pack I use the most is by Mountain Hardwear which has held up great for 8-9 years.
