Small IT help!
« on: February 01, 2015, 08:42:15 AM »
Cannot log into yahoo messenger.
 :-[
Says "bad internet connection" :P

When I follow the directions to "fix". It talks to me about new LAN settings that I am supposed to fix.. But I dont have a LAN but a Wifi....my YM wont log on even after system restore.
Internet works great otherwise. Attempts to fix by re installing new version YM have failed as I get error message "your FW setting prevent download of files".
But my Firewall settings are "medium" and i reset all defaults with same result.

So I re-installed the previous version of YM which I can install and which I was running, but wont get log on as described above ....
This is after a long history of trouble free use.

I am on Windows 7 with a HP, 64 bit OS

help!

Is really hard to know what could be going on...

The internet connection is yours or are you using a company/school/public network?
I never saw that error of the firewall forbidding someone to download files, supposedly firewalls protect you against incoming threats and let the outgoing traffic free.

Have you run an antivirus/antimalware? Maybe that is bringing you problems. I use AVG and Malwarebytes anti-malware.

Hope that helps.

Its a personal Verizon Fios connection
This is a problem that just popped up and I cant seem to fix.

One day YM worked great.
Next day all sorts of error messages
"There might be  aproblem with your IN connection"

when I follow the problem tree to fix in YM is reads

" Possible problem with secure internet connection HTTPS"

And then it tells me to go "IE tools" to the LAN and make sure I am running proxy.

But I am not running a LAN but a Wifi  :whip:

tried to fix by uninstalling and reinstalling YM
But it wont let me reinstall a new YM  due to "firewall problems"

So I reinstall my old YM again.. same problem..

Did a system restore a few times. FInally my last systems restore seemed to fix it but it worked for 1 day.

Now back to square 1

Do you remember installing something new between now and your last saved restore? Your computer installed some patch?
As a matter of fact a Wifi connection behaves like a LAN, but the errors you mention sound too weird... I dunno.

Try googling your error messages to see if anyone else had a similar issue.

Good luck with that Erick, is really hard to help you through the forum :S

It worked for  a couple hours now doesnt work again. maybe an anitvirus program is doing something weird in the background?

I just unistalled my current and uninstalled an older antivirus that was still on there (Norton and AVG)

When similar happens with me I go into accessories and see what has been down loaded a day or two before the issue. Then I uninstall till I find the culprit.

The exact same thing happened to me about a year ago and my antivirus software added something. I found it by trial and error and then deleted the patch/item.

To me, it sounds like a popup/anti virus blocker. You can also PM your antivirus carrier and ask them. They may know right away.

Last, as APX wrote: google your problem using your phone to see if others have had your problem and then the fix they used.

Norton and AVG won't work on the same computer, it will give you fits. Reinstall Norton then turn your computer off. Turn the computer back on and keep hitting KEY F11 until the recovery screen appears. Scroll up to the third line (I'm having a brain fart and cant remember what that line says) and press enter. Click on Norton, security screen, run scans then click on Power Eraser.  This is the only way I know of to be sure there is no virus or malware. By the way this program will take a long time to run because it checks everything.
Others may know more but this is what I would do.

Ok finally fixed it.
Restored default in IE "Advanced" tab.

I had done this before to no avail, not sure why it worked now.
(may this problem will come back once again who knows?

Also uninstalled Norton and AVG and bought  a subscription of Webroot Anti Virus which promptly found  a couple problems missed by others.
Figured it was time for  a change..

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!! :)
