Fuel Storage

I'm cleaning out and reorganizing my prep closet today and while changing the location of several containers of Coleman fuel (white gas) a container cracked! (no I didn't drop the thing)

I keep all my hazardous fluids in a drip tray in case of spillage so no harm was caused, but now the plastic bottle container is useless and by the looks of the others shrunken deformation the same is likely to happen to them.

I should likely store this stuff in a metal container that can hold a seal. but I'm uncertain as to what my doe's and don'ts are on aftermarket options on fuel storage.

Also any container tips as to what to look for while not spending an arm and a leg would be welcomed.

Plastic 20L fuel can used by the military is good. They can handle alot of damage and won't deform, the plastic is inert, and they're manageable sizes.

They can handle 120*F and 7*F, and the fuel remains good to go. I've worked with it personally.

Burt, not many years ago all they sold white gas in was metal. They were just like the metal one gallon gas cans. I haven't seen a one gallon metal gas can in a while, but there are plenty of two gallon available on the market like this one from your local ACE hardware..

I've heard white gas will store for up to five years if kept cool and unopened.

You should buy the coleman fuel in the 1 gallon metal can. They will last a long time. At sportsmans warehouse the gallon cans go for $13.50 and the plastic quart bottles are $7.25.
Plastic bottles for fuel storage isn't very good. Aluminum Sig or MSR bottles are much better. I like a little vodka every now and then and a brand called Kru 82 comes in handy stainless steel bottles with a quality top. They make great fuel bottles.

I like that the fact that my fuel is portable it also is a lot easier to fill a lantern with a smaller size container.
I never considered modern steel canteens... So while I like Vodka I'm not going to start a drinking habit just to get me some of those types of bottles. But it would be kick-ass if I could standardize my "small fuels" (non gasoline) containers. I'll paint them different colors depending on volatility and clear stenciled labels.
