I said this in 2015:

Quote
Bitcoin's price will climb into a bubble going past the all time high of $1200 making it the best performing asset of 2016. This will be due to the block reward halving in July cutting the creation of new bitcoin in half.

I was off by 1 month. And my stock market prediction was wrong. I will stick to crypto currency predictions.

For my 2018 prediction:
Nothing catastrophic will happen. Economy will continue to grow. No major wars will break out. The political soap opera will continue.

Traditional financial investors will start moving into crypto currency (Which may crash before then).

Since Grudgie is the only member who wants to play here are mt looks into the crystal ball...

Economy:
  • The economy will continue to chug along in a positive way. The only thing that could slow it down is some kind of major hiccup.
  • There will be a 15-20% correction in the market. The market is over heated now.
  • There will be a major hiccup. Think - N.Korea, Middle East, ANTIFA, The Daesh, High Level USofA assassination, grid failures, et cetera.
Political:
  • The Shadow Government will be exposed and indictments handed down.
  • More and more people will get on the Trump train, including some of the MSM.
  • As the ANTIFA movement wains, the group will become more desperate. Think the Weather Underground of the late 60's and early 70's.

:tinfoil: Stuff:
  • The USofA will dramatically reduce their funding of the United Nations.
  • High ranking current and retired employees of the government will be facing indictments. Some will be capital offenses.
  • The cities that have been controlled by Progressives for generations, discontent will continue to rise to the point of shooting in the streets. Think Chicago on steroids coming to Baltimore, St. Louis, Los Angles, Et Ctera.
  • A Perfect Storm of a Black Swan event will bring us into a World War III drama.

Overall, now is not the time to become content and take your foot off of the accelerator when it comes to prepping.

I would love to play but;
my crystal ball is broken and the parts that aren't cracked are foggy and i can't find my glasses.
my internet is giving me trouble and i can't order a new one.   and the dog ate my last predictions - i guess i shouldn't have wrapped it in bacon and left it in his bowl.

in all honesty, not much has changed.
civil strife is growing.  economic pressure is growing.
QE has really top weighted the derivatives market.
we're entering a new housing bubble.
i'm worried about the coupling of the money supply with the stockmarket.
most people in my generation haven't saved enough to retire.  Those who have, put most of their money into a 401K tied to the stockmarket - any minor recession will wipe out their savings.
the job outlook for millenials isn't good.  The US is a service based economy - the service industry is loosing jobs to expert systems or outsourcing.
the US of A is even having trouble getting the lights back on in Texas, let alone the mess that is Puerto Rico - between politics and economics, its the work-a-day people who loose in the end.

i know this is an old saw and these conditions have existed before but its a bit like stepping on a wasp - i don't want to do it twice.

@JM
i think you are spot on
on a couple of them, I have a comment;

-i think in the economy we'll see the republican bump (a minor recession) - historically it happens in the second half of a republican presidential term.  Even if Trump isn't the President at the time, i still think it will happen.

-On the shadow government - kinda by definition - they are mostly immune to their own law-keeping functions.  with regulatory capture by large business controlling their Federal offices - with the current vetting methods of Federal Judges - i don't see the shadowgov losing much power.  if a purge occurs it will be smoke and mirrors.

-I think the ANTIFA and ALT-RIGHT will engage in more violence - all in the name of freedom, of course.

- I think you are underestimating the problems in large cities in the US of A.  (my state of residence) Pennsylvania's capitol Harrisburg is/has tried to file for bankruptcy - it seems to be a problem in most states.  The larger the city the larger the possible fall.

-the Black Swan - that does worry me.

@Grudgie - you nailed the Bit Coin rise.  The more people realize how debased their local currency is the more likely they are to use block-chain currencies. Europe and the US of A treasuries/excheckers/central banks have to be worried about this.  it threatens to wrest control of the economy from central banks.

I don't see a bright future, mostly because of all the military posturing that is currently occurring.

I think there will be some sort of major military escalation, whether in the Ukraine, the Middle East, the South China Sea, the Norks, or between India and Pakistan, something is going to boil over.  There's just too much military hardware in play, and sooner or later a mistake is going to be made.

The divisiveness in the U.S. between different parties will continue to escalate.  I don't see a civil war occurring during the next year, but I also don't see relations getting any better.  Feelings are still going to get hurt, the war of words and for our minds will continue.  If major players from either political party get indicted, then all bets are off.

Finally, I don't believe the economy will continue to improve.  I think the stock market will take a significant tumble, mostly due to outside political or military events.  I think that if your debts are all paid, then tangibles are the best asset, better than money in a savings account or a CD, especially if the economy does tank.

Two out of three, not bad.  US embassy to Jerusalem and cyber attacks.

1. The New York Times seems to be slowly getting on the Trump train and that will continue.

2. More SEX scandals on the left  which will quiet the left down but not shut them up.

3. There will be major arrests of ANTI-FA and the KKK (ANTI-FA not AN-TE-FA)

4. George Soros passes but just like Howard Hughes it will be kept a secret until someone controls his money.

5. North Korea’s Olympic coaching staff will be spies and will be considered acceptable losses. He knows the USA won’t fight a war with all the worlds athletes in South Korea and he will have the upper hand.

6. AG Sessions finally grows a pair and  indicts a large number of  obama’s hold overs.

7. California declares bankruptcy and President Trump says “OH WELL”

We all have predictions of a different kind which makes this site so interesting. Differing opinions is a good thing.
In principle, no less than in practice, socialism is the ideology of thieves and tyrants.

I also think some of those things will come to pass. However, its really a lot closer to a Wish List than a Prediction List. I'm not very optimistic about the fate of our country because we've started down the Liberal road to Socialism and once that happens its like a snowball effect. You can't stop it and it only gets bigger. Then it crashes at the bottom of the hill and then you don't even have a snow ball any more.

Agree pkveazey, "However, its really a lot closer to a Wish List than a Prediction List."

There is one thing that is inevitable I am afraid of - War. Listen to some of the folks in Washington DC who work directly for Mr. Trump, Mattis, Tillerson, and Haley come immediately to mind. Then we have some major hawks in Congress like McCain, Graham, and Cotton.

I am truly surprised that the MSM have not picked up on this. IMO, we are being prepared for war.

Now if there is a war, the stock market will correct significantly.

Thinking back 2017 was a very interesting year, e.g. Clinton loss, Trump win. The FBI and AG fixing the Clinton drama. With Trump in charge I suspect a even more interesting year.

Stay tuned.  :coffeeNews:
