Emberlit stove
« on: June 07, 2013, 05:45:28 PM »
I dont think ive seen this posted on here yet. James yeager did an interview with this guy and it seems like a great little product. I will probably be getting one eventally. At $40 it seems pricey for a few slices of thin stamped stainless, but its a guy knockin these things out on a small scale as i understand it so it worth the extra bucks.

I could have sworn I showed you guys how to roll your own..

The Emberlit is a fine product "simple and elegant" hits the nail squarely on the head.

I do believe that from our perspective there are better options out there, as example the honey stove allows you to use a trangia or a pop can stove inside of it. This is a huge win in that it allows you to cook without locally sourced fuel or the presence of smoke. Most people want to downplay how important that could be but let us consider the USGI kit for one minute, MREs use a odorless, smokeless chemical heater to heat the meal.. why would they do so if wood smoke wasn't an issue?

I can't speak to all the commercial options on the shelf but I can say you could do a damn sight worse than an Emberlit, having handled one I can say they are quite robust while remaining simple and elegant.

I love that first cool day of fall when someone in the neighborhood just can't take it anymore and fires off their stove.. You can smell that pinon smoke for miles.. wait.. you can smell it for miles..

Yeah TG! But in my neck of the woods the smell comes from seasoned cherry or oak.

I read you loud and clear TG. I see it as a solid longterm peice that does have weaknesses such as wood smell. But at the same time if im cookin food the smells going to be unavoidable. Perhaps wood odor carries further then food odor though. The guy did say it only requires a handfull of sticks to cook all of your food because of how its designed.  Whatever the case its worth trying out. Id love to get rid of my reliance on fuels. But ill still have liquid fuel stove options available if i need them. It could be another tool in the tool box.

It is a great tool Ken, dude has tinkered up a wonderfully efficient product and they do only need a handful of twigs to boil water.

I wasn't trying to talk you out of it by any means and would be very interested to see if a pop can stove would work in it.

For the record the wisperlite is on the bench with a rebuild kit because a buddy of mine blew up the pump.

He cranked the fuel valve down like it was a lug nut and now the pump leaks fuel and won't keep pressure.

I assume, what I know is that it leaks from that valve and I had to cook my meals for 2 days over wood. It was bullshit and I am pissed.

This dude could bust an anvil in a cotton patch so it is no surprise, what is going to be a surprise to him is I've broken his brand new pocket rocket.. I didn't know he broke mine, he doesn't know I broke his... yet...

Funny crap TG.

Do you know how many people who changed their own oil & filter on a boat engine could never understand why their engine ran out of oil OR why the oil pressure is so low.

Maybe because, "You cranked down on the flippen oil filter when you put it back on you moron!"

orrrrrrrrr... I won't mention names here because he is probably on tonight but...

When weekend warriors torque the their spark plugs to much when putting them into the engine block

The worst part is that this guys should know better, he was a mechanic and has owned a whisperlite, yet for some reason (he is an asshole) he broke mine..

That sucks... I can see breaking the pocket rocket. Its so micro. So far ive had good luck with mine. I love how tiny that shit is. If someone made an adapter to thread for the standard green tanks it would be really cool. It defeats its purpose as ultralight if your huffin a big tank but still it would be cool to have that option. I wonder if a hardware store might have such a part...
