This is a great shopping list!  I think some of the things won't disappear first because most people won't think about them (fabric, hand grain mill, notebooks, winter clothes - if disaster happens in summer, bug repellant - if disaster happens in winter, etc.).  However, I think I may print this list out and put it in our "the S has HTF plan" book.

A lot of that is not needed at all. My preps are shit right now but I definitely would never stock ant traps or a mop bucket. If you're so far into a SHTF scenario that your concerned with keeping the kitchen floor nice and shiny then you probably better know how to make your own bucket out of wood because that one you bought is going to break eventually and you're on your own for good.

Ken keep in mind it's just a list. What are your top 100 things to buy/grab in collapse?

My number one thing is insulin for my wife.
My number two is gas.
My number three is.......

I agree, everyone's list differs. This list kind of gives that "hoard and hunker down" vibe though. Nobody's demise will ever be lack of ant traps and mop buckets. If it is.... you were doomed anyways.

This is a tough call with the make believe zombie scenario. I THINK I know what you mean but I also assumed the girl I liked in 3rd grade knew I liked her. I assumed wrong. I learned its best not to assume so... can you be more specific? (It heavily effects my answer)

My list goes as follows:

1) Go on the internet and order a "shit-ton" of stuff like:
    * Ammo, Battery's, NVG's etc.
    Even if only a few items arrive RIGHT ON!
2) Go to the ATM and get as much cash out of the machine as I can
3) Buy as many, petroleum holding containers then buy:
    * Gas, kerosene, diesel, motor oil (Both for gas & diesel engines)
4) Buy as many propane tanks I can and get them filled
5) Buy as many "over the counter" medicines as possible like:
    * Hay fever, cold, etc meds
    * Feminine supplies
    * Open wound supplies
    * Etc
6) Parts for/like:
    * Tractors
    * Trucks/cars
    * Chain saws
    * Filters
    * Spark plugs
    * Tires
    * ETC
7) Seeds to supplement what we have and for barter
8) Hardware store
    * Fasteners
    * glue
    * Rope & Chain
    * Simple wood products like 2x4's, 5/8" plywood, etc
    * Hose and or poly irrigation pipe
    * Etc
9) Ammo for BOL defense and for barter (Ammo does not need to match BOL's standard firearms)
10) Alcohol for barter

Now you say, "How are you going to pay for all of this crap?"

A) Use your credit card till you hit your credit limit of the cc's system goes down
B) Second you should have a chunk of paper money on hand. At least one months worth.
C) Barter using what you might have extra of
D) Last, use any PM's you have, silver, gold, etc. Remember you can't eat PM's.

Unchainedpreppers, what is your top 10 list?

I respect that Ken.

So let's say "financial collapse" Ken? What's your top ten.  ;)

Ok, for Financial collapse (and ill keep a realistic budget as if maxing out a CC) I would buy...

1. MRE's
2. Hand pump water filters (like a long distance backpacker would carry).
3. Several sets of danner boots(without a good boot were fucked).
4. Ammo
5. Medical supplies (for example like 2,000 Ibuprofen).
6. Several Hand woven virgin wool blankets (they are like $300 each)
7. Several high quality bushcraft knives and axes. (That would easily break $1000)
8. Lots of extra thick and tough tarps
9. A gazillion bic lighters and Ferro rods.
10. Gas cans and gas for them.
11. (Cheater) tens of thousands of feet of 550 cord and bank line.

I wrote my list off of my needs TODAY. Some items I can start to remove without going nutts on a CC.  If I had like 2 days warning I should get all that overnighted in time. If not I can get most of that or a similar second option near by.

Thanks for presenting the question JM, it was good for me to write that out.

Like all lists that one is good and bad liberally mixed.. Some items are already hard to find like Strike Anywhere Matches and Blammo... but there is some real gems in there like hand carts and wagons. Even if you have gasoline stockpiled you're still gonna need to move stuff and won't always want to use a motor to do so.

I don't recall seeing bicycles on the list but that is another item that may come in very handy. You can ask Ken about gridlock and if he thinks a guy could ride a bike though that mess as an alternative. A bike give you the option to cover more ground for less effort or to carry incredible loads while requiring very little in the way of road.

A bike is a great idea! I also agree that the list will vary by scenario.  For a major collapse/true SHTF where we'd burn our cash & credit reserves, I think my priorities would be:

* cooking supplies (tools like pots, pans, knives, spoons, etc. that might be hard to replace or repair if supplies disappear)
* gardening supplies (again, tools like hoes, shovels, spades, hoses, etc.)
* food (specifically long-storing and/or aids to cooking like spices, flour, evaporated milk, etc. - note: I have food supplies stored, but every extra bit helps)
* shoes and clothes
* sewing stuff (fabric, needles, thread, zippers, etc.)
* animal stuff (feed, bedding, medicine, etc.)
* fuel (gas cans, gas, diesel, wood, etc.)
* Hardware (hinges, hooks, screws, nails, paint, etc.)
* Camping stuff (tarps, sleeping bags, cast iron, fishing hooks, etc.)
* misc (books, board games, plain paper & pens, anything not nailed down that looks useful)

Basically I'd hit - in order - grocery store, Home Depot/Lowes, Tractor Supply/Petsmart, Dicks/Bass Pro, then anything I can think of that's not mobbed.
