German Produced WW II Hi Power

I was chatting with 1000Meter last evening and he asked me to post pictures of his Grand Dad's German WWII produced Browning Hi Power pistol. So here it is:

1000Meter told me that once he received it he shot it out his back door (We can only assume he has no neighbors) at a small box placed 25 yards from his back porch. He hit the box 13x's out of 15 rounds shot the first time it was loaded and fired.

The pistol is now being apraised.

That is a nice old firearm. Don't ever sell it. Will be interesting to see what it's appraised at. My guess is probably at least $1k, if not more.

I am not an expert however I saw one on gunbroker.com with an origional holster for $20K.

To set the record straight:  the mag holds 13 rounds.  My first time shooting it off my porch I landed all 13 on a cereal box @ 30 - 35 yards.  Second time I scored 11 out of 13.  I think mine is worth about 3k but could be as much as 10k as there is all matching serial numbers, no rust, perfect firing condition, etc.  Unfortunately I do not have the original holster but my pistol has all the original German markings.  She's a collectable with the heart of a shooter.  Was my grandfather's - NOT FOR SALE. I would find nice home in the safe for that one. Take it out to admire and clean it once in a while, put it away. If you break something firing it a lot, the value plummets. Just a bit of friendly advice.

I came across a Nazi-marked Hi Power for about $650. Love the way they feel but haven't gotten to shoot them yet.

The appraisal came back - only $750.  I'm surprised so low because it's in such great shape.  The appraiser went by the NRA playbook step-by-step and totally ignored the historical significance of the weapon.  He told me he's been in business 20 years and actually never laid eyes on one in real life before.  Oh well - it's not for sale anyway. I'm not surprised with the appraisal, and sounds reasonable in today's economy. To the right person in the right auction, you could probably get a little more. If you had bring back paperwork, then the price skyrockets, but without some sort of proof of where the pistol came from, it's just a story. Regardless, it's a family heirloom and should be treated as such.

You are correct crudos - Even if you had a letter (provenance) written by your grand Dad stating where he got it and how he got it, the value would be higher.

Now with that said, a new Standard Browning Hi Power is around $600- with an extra mag. You add on the target sights they go north of there to $990- which I have seen at Cabela's in Hamburg, PA.

1) 1000M, you know and I know your grand dad's hand gun is worth more then $750- to the right
    person (WW II Buff)
2) Even though the appraiser has his head up his butt, I would hold onto and Cherish that hand
    gun. Maybe write your own provenance letter so that your heir (s) may get a higher appraisal in
    the future (Can I be one of your heir's?)
