Oh I forgot to mention two things, if the handcuff key holes are facing away from your hands (how I was trained to put them on) it becomes a lot more difficult to open them up. Having a wider base to where you hold the key becomes very useful. It also becomes impossible with hinged cuffs.
Side note: most handcuffs have a "double lock" That locks clasp from ratcheting down further. This means that you'd have to make a half rotation with your key the opposite way to disable and a full rotation the normal way to unlock the cuffs.
