The Bushmaster Assault Rifle-very strange gun

I have a chance to pick one of these things up for only $500 and im thinking about it.
Any thoughts gentlemen?

A little quick google searching and I found one the man was asking $1000 for so on that fact you can't really lose.

If it uses AR15 magazines I would get it. What I think is really cool about it is that it has a 1 in 12 twist rate. I thought about getting a 1 in 14 AR15 barrel to replicate the devestating wounds reported in the Vietnam war. Early M16s had 1 in 14 twis rates shooting 55 grain bullets which would only stabalize the bullet out to certian ranges. Once an unstable bullet hits a target, the heavier base starts to travel faster than the tip causing it to flip over sideways (which is what people refer to as tumbling) and it either fragments into two main chunks or leaves a dispraportionate permanent wound cavity as wide as the length of the bullet.

This doesn't happen very often with modern 1 in 7 twist M16s. The overstabalized bullet tends to 'drill' a .22 sized hole into the target, thus now the M16's killing ability relys heavily on fragmenting at high velocities only possible at close ranges. This is why knowing terminal ballistic theory and bullet design is so important when using a small bullet like .223.

I'm ranting, but I think the gun is good on the twist rate aspect alone. It wouldn't have the problem I mentioned above.

yeah  guess so, even if it sucks I can always sell it.
The cheapest one i've seen online was $750.

I really like the concept of it and like Grudgie already mentioned 55gr through a 1:12 twist is pretty sick stuff.

I think im going to go for it, I need a .223/5.56 anyway, not having one has bugged the hell out of me since i sold my AR.

Would also make for a good barter item in SHTF, you could pretty much name your price in silver or any other commodity you could want for a semi auto, mag fed, .223 rifle.   Or could be used to arm a friend.
