Is Smith & Wesson M&P AR15 Sport in 5.56/223 a decent rifle for the price? It is $300 cheaper than most and the only thing I noticed in the add was it didn't mention a chrome barrel.

If you can get that home for under about $500 I would take and run.  If I could squeeze pennies for 2, Id get them both.

IIRC the Sport does not have a forward assist, chromed bbl or dust cover

Each of those is a deal breaker for me

I thought the barrel was melonited...
But Now I am not sure since it wasnt mentioned on their website..

Couldn't agree more with Curahee.  For the price that good quality ARs are going for the M&P Sport isnt worth it.  Palmetto State just had a special on Colt 6940s for $749.  They currently have a 16" middy w/ stainless barrel for $549 that would be a ton better rifle at a similar price. There are plenty of good deals available for a quality AR, don't settle.

Think chrome-lined barrels are over-rated, not having one isn't a deal-breaker for me.

I'll be happy with a melonited barrel as well.

But I dont really know the exact price point of that Sport that the OP was looking at.....

Delton also makes some excellent rifles for the price, BUT with so many name brands on sale its hard to justify going with an entry level brand.

You could always build your own too, and get the exact parts you want the first time around.
