My opinion is that if you try to rebuild society, society will just fluck it up.
The division between the people who are already dead - they just don't know it yet, and the people who are going to die and the people who might die - that you didn't want to die, but just couldn't stop it - will be more than you may be able to comprehend.
I live in a small town built on a dead end road.
I have neighbors that I like, but wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life supporting, and I have neighbors that I don't like - that would probably steal until someone shot them and then would starve to death.
You know the type, the ones that only cuts the grass maybe once every 6 weeks and then complains that there is something wrong with their lawnmower, because it over heats when they cut the grass.
That never shovels the snow in the winter, unless their vehicle gets stuck in the driveway, and expects the clownship to come and plow their driveway for them - because they are too busy working, drinking beer, doing drugs, and socializing.
I have neighbors that I never see bringing in groceries into their house.
Where do they eat? What do they eat? How often do they eat?
Is the reason why you don't see any food going into their place because they spend all their money on drugs?
The high school has a summer free breakfast / lunch program for the kids, because if the school doesn't feed the kids, the kids don't eat, because their parents are irresponsible and spends their money on booze and dope and doesn't care if the kids lives or dies!
Why should I care?
The survivors will find their own way, while the looser will be laying where they fell, dead!
The more people you incorporate into your PACK, the less chance you have of survival beyond the 6 month limit.
Take away phones and the internet and our country will slide back to 1860 in about 3 years...
How do you expect the land to provide for all of our people when most of our people are too dumb and too lazy to go outside and plant anything? Or they are too sympathetic to kill anything.
If I am hungry and there is no food and you have a dog, and you have been feeding your dog the food I provided for you to eat, the last thing your dog is going to hear is BANG!
If you are feeding my food to your dog, the next bullet is going to be yours!
Nothing irks me more than someone crying - I have no food to eat, and then when you give them food, they complain and say that it isn't the brand they like to eat, or that it doesn't taste good or they throw a portion of it on the floor and feed it to their animals..
If you are going to survive, a group of 4 and no more than 6 is all the more you can support, even if they are all able bodied people, willing to work. Eventually they will get sick or old and become a burden on you!
And trying to build suburbia in the wilderness will only bring the same exact problems you had in the place from where you fled.
