Keep Some ideas coming! I need a blow out kit!
-
For a blow out kit instead of putting trauma pads you can use maxi pads, a good pair or kitchen scissors can take the place of emt shears/rescue hook, some tractor supplies stores sell stuff thats like quick clot the only difference is its meant for animals but it works just the same
-
have fam that are doc's ;) ;)
watch out when it comes to the vet stuff. it can sometimes cost more
-
The first bit of advice i will give is marry a nurse ;D
But other than that, whats the budget limit your working with?
Yes! It makes s huge difference...places like the dollar store or big lots can save you a fortune while you rack up quick.

Southern Patriot: ill send you that list of what i have in my med kit.

My older sister is a nurse.
Well, looks like its time to start being really, really nice to big sis.
try explaining to her what your doing(realisticly) leave out anything that refers to a zombie apocalypse! Invite her to check out the forum...
Your not gona get a med kit any better than what she can put together for "free"..
-
here's some ideas that are free.
work on kicking any bad habits like smoking, drinking, etc. (i'm the pot calling the kettle black here because i still do both :-[)
day walks with your BOB
organize the preps that you already have, label things, make everything easier to grab and go faster and easier.
every time you go grocery shopping just buy a few more things than usual (canned food... anything with a long shelf life... check out ZombieTactics on YT, he's got a great series called "Food prep for the Lazy, Late, and Cheap)
dry-fire practice with your guns around your house
sharpen all your knives
clean all your guns
that's all i got off the top of my head

DEMCAD just put up a video today with a few ideas......

Spirit, I've been prepping for 4 for about a year and a half. The whole time by only living on 20 bucks here and 50 there and let me tell you, sales, clearances and paying attention to unit prices practically become a religion. Common sense would tell you a big package of stuff would be cheaper than several small packages but look at the unit prices before you put anything in your cart. I can't tell you how much I've saved by doing this. On practically no budget it takes time but eventually you'll get there. Rid yourself of unnecessary expenses... Like I'm one to talk LOL.

[url=http://yoursmiles.org/p-m <~~~~ look,they found lnl..lol
But your right crooked....$20 a week at the dollar store adds up quick!
if you can stay out of your stash that is.
-
I know I'm gonna catch allot of shit by everyone by saying this but I dont recommend quick clot except the gauze in a wrol/shtf situation because the powder form works great but it needs to be cleaned out of the wound and all blood clots that are ready or overed need to be removed as well or they can travel to your heart and cause problems.
-
I agree with using maxi pads as a cheap bandage but I also say gauze, gauze, and more gauze if your working with a gunshot wound.
It's always good to clean it off the best you can then pack it with gauze, then cover it with your maxi, next keep pressure on it until it's under control.
Btw most fabric stores sell gauze by the square yard.
-
Papabear, I didn't know that about the fabric stores, I'm guessing it's not sterile though huh?
-
Ive been on a major budget for 2 yrs now. I have suplimented my prepin cash with scrap metal. I run around towns on trash nights with an 8x10 trailer.
One mans trash has become my food, bullets and much more. I can make an extra $80 to $100 in a good run. its paid some bills and kept my preps growing.
On good weeks ive pulled down over $500. Just a though. If you go this route learn what your scrap yards are paying out for for different metals and separate em. Steel is around $250 per gross ton in my neck of the woods. Copper, aluminum, and brass really pay well. Dont laugh folks its paid my mortgage a few times.

No laughs here brother!!!
i got a friend that does it daily! He makes some good coin to...
We have a place here where everybody goes muddin...atv's,4?4's and its also where the local gangs n thugs drop and burn their stolen auto's.
he takes his mobile cuttin torche down and cuts them up and hauls it across the scales! It got so bad here that folks were stealing the steel grates out of the street and trying to recycle them....kinda hard to do when they have "city of menphis" engraved in them! Lol
-
Steel grates is pretty bad. We had some jerks actually steal the bronze emblems from a vetrans memorial cemetary and try to sell em to a scrap yard. the owner was prior service navy and had some friend in that cemetary. he boaught the plates called the cops and returned the plates to the memorial. you have to show ID in RI to use a scrap yard so he wrote the lic # down for the popo.
Another group has been hitting park and rides with a bat powered sawsall and cutting catalitic converters out of cars for the presious metal in them. now we have to give alot of personal info to turn them in. A freakin state senator got his ganked as well. Folks are getting desperate.
-
I scrap too, a few years ago it paid off pretty well but now people have caught on and it's not even worth driving around town to scrap anymore but If I see something I stop and pick it up.
Whiskey, we had a similar incident around here not to long ago, they even stripped the copper roof of the church.

if your looking for 5 gal food grade buckets you can try the bakery at walmart. they have them avail for only a dollar each and they have good seals and the lids close and seal nicely. its a great value instead of paying up to 10 bucks for new ones. they are only used once and generally held bulk frosing for cakes and other pastery type shit.I just bought 5 and i am using 2 of them for my ceramic water filter system from CTD. I filled one half way with water snaped on the lid and turned it upside down. No leaks. so check it out. Im not a fan of walmart persay but a deal is adeal.

Folks from back home are always complaining about phone service being down from the lines being stolen for the copper. Its a reoccuring problem but not one just in WV... I found stories of phone cable theft in Virginia, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, Alabama, Vermont.... I could go on and on. There have been several deaths due to electrocution... but it seems the problem is getting worse. Lets face it...the economy sucks and people are getting desperate.
-
Flea markets, yard sales and Craigslist are also good places to look for a good deal.
-
Just a thought, couldn't you just boil the gauze from the fabric store to sterilize it? Then let it dry and put it in a sealed bag.
-
Check out..
- Thrift stores
- Old mill surp
- Ramen noodles/Knor pasta sides
- Garage sales "ask if there is other stuff he wants to sell he hadn't put out!"
- Bakeries for spare 5gal buckets
-
Good shit burt but you may want to try the wal mart bakery for 5 gal buckets first they are a buck a piece and they are pretty damn good.
-
Oh and for those of you who stock propane like me. Any time im scrapping i pick up any propane tank on the side of the road. They are only 20 bucks to trade out at a walmart, gas station or grocery store. But 42 bucks to buy new. It aint pretty but ive tuned one mans trash into a case of ammo more than once people. Nothing glamorous about it. But survival isnt pretty. And neither am I. and im a dollar store whore for all kinds of shit. espeasialy isopropyl alchohol. [url=http://yoursmiles.org/p-m

when using a unsealed bandage. boil and use asap. you can clean them and store them but for best defence against bacteria you want to treat a clean
un- wraped, unboiled bandage material with alchohol or antibacterial cream befor use. But its all about stopping the bleeding fast in a emergency situation so what evers clever. just return and treat properly when time allows. But your heads definitley in the right place man. Theres alot of shit out there that can be used as a pressure bandage. Even your socks. [img]http://www.smileydesign.n

i replaced (5) 2'' and (1) 3/4'' stolen backflow devices last week. theyve also been stealing the sewer lids here. one was right near a school.. a little girl fell 30ft and broke her leg. some are right in the middle of busy streets. and then theyve also been stealing the fire hydrants and thousands of feet of copper wire from the street lights.
