What are your opinions on a Polymer 80% kit? Are the worth the money? I know your going to say save up and get an aluminum lower but I,m asking about the polymer 80.
In principle, no less than in practice, socialism is the ideology of thieves and tyrants.

They are easier to work on.  I'd suggest buying two, the first one is used to learn techniques and the second one for a finished product.  They won't be as durable as a metal lower, but some are available with embedded metal at appropriate locations.  Make sure you get a jig with it too.  It takes patience to get a decent finished product, but it is doable by someone with limited availability to machine tools.  It's a good winter project!
