Old fashion flashlight anyone?
« on: January 25, 2017, 09:48:28 PM »
I got curious and started thinking (anyone smell smoke) about LED lights in my house and flashlights during a EMP/CME. Some articles say they will blow out and others say not if they are off.
It might be time to get a few old style flashlights.
Here is a discussion on "Candle Power Forums" This way you can make up your own mind.

Hmmmmmmm.... That's an odd one. It made me do a bit of logical thinking on whether an LED flashlight might or might not be effected. Since a massive RF signal can actually blow out a detector diode in a radio receiver, it would seem possible that an EMP might do the same thing to an LED flashlight. However, I'm going to ignore it and follow my belief that it is highly unlikely. EMP's seem to like to attach themselves to LONG pieces of wire and blow up whatever is attached to it. Everything on all my LED flashlights is pretty much a Faraday shield except the actual LED bulb. If an EMP happens, I'll let you know what happened to my flashlights.

As to the LED lights in my house, I have spares that are not connected to LONG pieces of wire. If they do blow out, I have a whole bunch of extra incandescent bulbs because I'm a prepper.
