DPMS split pins/roll pins aren't beveled and new assemblers usually mangle the
crap out of them and the finish around the holes they're trying to pound them into.

Overall, the detail of the Daniel Defense is better. More care in finish machining
smoother surface to surface contact areas..etc.

Put your money in the Daniel Defense, plus you get a MOE trigger guard. [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

I worked retail firearms for a number of years and put together
thousands of lowers with a different number of parts, some from different companies
but spec'd from the same OEM, some different all together. During the BHO
rush/scare, sometimes an easy hundred assemblies a week. Parts kits, I've seen 'em all.

DD is more than GTG.

That's a far more detailed question than you think, any experienced shooter who's active in training can
take you on a ride with that question- that's not my style.

To answer your question directly- my style,
and not take you on a tangent about the pros and cons and things to consider...

Yep, the light weight is noticeably lighter.

I like you :)

So here's a bit of a tangent:

I urge you to weigh your options. (not literally by weight)

Humping a weapon is something people tend to focus on and as a result they try for the lightest set-up. Blah-blah-blah.
As I stated before, yes you will notice the difference in felt weight, that's a pro if you don't want to hump a rifle.
The con, known to guys who actually train outside of a bench and have long forgotten what a 100yrd line looks like,
is that light weight guns are extremely fatiguing to the shooter. The constant need to drive the gun is a PITA.
This, especially while on the move engaging multiple targets.

So fatigue while humping a rifle or fatigue while shooting a rifle. Pick your poison.

For me, I prefer a heavier gun, or a moderately weighty gun. I use guns to shoot, that's its job
and it's most valuable to me doing its job.

Offsetting the shooting fatigue of a lightweight rifle is pretty simple, for me a comp, a BattleComp.
A comp is a must have on a lightweight rifle. Something you may want to consider, consider it financially too.
Most people prefer flash suppression over a comp, consider that too.

Another downside to a lightweight barrel is the heat. I've noticed they get hot pretty fast during sustained fire.
Heat is THE #1 factor in barrel life expectancy. Same for degraded accuracy. The hotter it gets, the worse
off your barrel is. Suppressing a lightweight- Sucks balls. POA-POI shift can off/on is heavy on a lightweight.
The additional weight of the can on a thin profile barrel causes flex and that translates to to shift.

Hope this helps.

I's stick with a Gov. Profile. That's just me though.  [url=http://www.freesmileys.or

you guys are helping a ton. as soon as i can i will buy the slightly heavier upper lol. now for the bolt carrier group what do you think i should use, i have found that one should use a slightly different BCG for a carbine or mid length gas tube compared to a rifle length. also if i buy the product that is the BCM auto (mpi) BCG will i get put on a watch list for a product that has auto in its description even though it wont make it auto?

being the guy i am i prefer a heavier rifle, i'd rather have a more solid weapon and have to hump that than heave a pencil dick barrel and worry about heat

Lets not even start talking about watchlists... it made me think of this qoute I had just read.

"How does something immoral, when done privately, become moral when it is done collectively? Futhermore, does legality establish morality? Slavery was legal; apartheid was legal; Stalinist, Nazi and Maoist urges were legal. Clearly, the fact of legality does not justify these crimes. Legality, alone, cannot be the talisman of moral people" Walter Williams

Technique, is there any truth to what G.U.S. is saying about different BCGs for short guns? I thought it was the buffer weight that was different. Keep the great info flowing buddy!

A FA BCG has a bit more mass to it and there for is a bit heavier.
If you're having issues, like with over gassed guns or short barreled
guns, a FA BCG used inconjunction with a H type buffer can help the
issue.

Personally, I always use a FA group.

This Brings us to a Great Point to ask???
« Reply #13 on: September 07, 2011, 09:33:07 AM »
Hello all, RON L here

I saw this Thread and I thought without Thread HiJacking, this is a Great Place to ask, what AR parts Kits have worked well for folks? I see this is a Thread about DPMS as well as Daniels defence systems!! I built my Lower on a Rock River with Parts that I had Compiled over the y3ears as a "Spare Parts set", I sumply adeded a Oly Upper I got in a trade to a Lower I got in a Buy and was off to the races?? The Great thing about AR is that it's Modular and parts abound, The Bad thing about AR is that it's modular and parts abound???  My Point is, that as in my case, many of the Parts I had weere ot as Good as I had Hoped? I had to replace a Hammer spring as well as a Few Pins like mentioned onthe DPMS were not tapered and in a few cases no way were MILSPEC and would not fit without a Bigger hammer? Thats not How I like to Build guns as I want to be able to use off the shelf parts!!!! Who has used what parts and what reults have ya had? My Lower parts set were gotten from "I Sales" outy of shotygun news and I can Tell Ya, NEVER AGAIN!!!! Many Folks are harsh on Olympic, but my Upper was 100%,ad gave me no isses, while many spares I had internally that were not I sales were Colt and Bushmaster and many were not useable? I know parts is parts but Dang????  What  has worked for you all's Build and what Co's were ace and what were crap? I'll start by saying avond "I- Sales" due to poor Milspec and crappy quality, you all???

this question is mostly for you technique or anyone that thinks they could help. i'm stuck either i keep waiting to get a standard built BCM upper with a mid length or carbine length gas system or i could get a light weight upper assembly thats carbine length right now and be done with the build. i'm eager to get this ar done but i don't want to go with a lightweight upper and get barrel whip when it heats up.  maybe you know of another upper assembly i could buy that is of good quality that is a 14.5" upper with a permanent flash hider thats a mid length gas system, and also i want it to be a 1 in 7 twist so if you guys could help it would be awesome

Daniel Defense also makes a 14.5 Middy in either a light weight or Gov. profile.
Check with them.
