FYI:
A standard Bic (or any flint style disposable lighter) can be made perfectly operational in only 45 seconds after complete submersion in water (yeah I've timed it repeatedly.) It may take a little longer in colder weather.
First dry your hand (especially your thumb) on your shirt. Then remove excess water by slinging the lighter then wiping it thoroughly on your shirt. Then depress the gas button for a second to clear any water from the gas tube. Then either...
A) Simply hold it in a loose fist with sealed fingers (minus the pinky) while breathing (inhale & exhale) through your fist across the striking mechanism. It takes a little practice to get your grip and finger and lighter placement just right, but it works every time once you do.
OR
B) You can also dry it by holding the top (striker part) of the lighter snugly between you lips (with or without using your teeth) and breathing in & out normally for a minute or two. Be sure to position it where most of the air passes through the striking mechanism.
It's something you can practice doing anytime. Just soak your disposable lighter under a faucet then give it a try.
The videos on YT where they rapidly roll the lighter's striker roller on a flat surface (wood, rubber, etc) are retarded. It takes too long and you risk damaging what may be your only source for fire.
