MainePrepper and reality in a SHTF.
« on: September 07, 2012, 05:37:37 PM »

The beginning part of the video, he makes some really good points about in a true WROL/SHTF situation and the nature of people in those types of situations. He's a big advocate of community, but also has realistic views on what could happen also when things turn sour. If your not subscribed to him, you should be. The rest of the video about shotgun as one of your primaries.

Maby it's just me but he seems to emphasize self defense a little to much. He is obviously talking to an audience of fit males because no little old lady is going to go out and buy a WASR.

Fair enough. I have seen the two of his videos posted on this forum and he seems to think if you don't have an assault rifle you are going to die. He could instead focus around what guns are good for hunting all around game.

I believe he, as several of us do, see a little bit different game that will be in our sights in the NEAR future.  And, memory serve me right, i believe he addressed just that issue.  And I tend to agree, that while a bolt rifle serves a set purpose, when in a "defensive" situation a bolt rifle versus a semi-auto would be far from ideal.  I'm a broke ass and I was still able to come up with the money to build my AR (yes, I went back to the dark side lol).  Again, I have options for long term but my focus is a little more on the immediate struggle.

Shotguns serve a purpose and they do serve that purpose very well.  I agree, though, every man and woman needs a high cap magazine fed rifle for self defense against more than few people (if you can have one legally in your State).  Of course, if you don't think you'll ever need that, then buy all means save the money, and put it somewhere else in your preps, but I think every man and woman needs one just to cover a "what if."

Bolt action rifles also serve a very specific purpose, and by all means, they serve that purpose very well.  A .308 bolt action rifle is just a sweet firearm, and I think everyone should have one of those as well.

Of course, they do make magazine fed .50 Barretts as well, so ya know, that would be awesome, too. LOL [url=http://www.freesmileys.or

I cover all my bases, Bolt Action Rifle, Magazine Fed Rifle, Shotgun, and a .22 rifle.  If you can afford it in your preps, you should look at it as well.  If you're looking for any type of firearm, talk to me.   [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

that was my approach when I first started building my collection. my first was a pistol because I didn't know any better, but from that point on, I made sure I hit all my bases before buying any "repeats". I went: pistol, mag-fed rifle (AR), 12g pump, bolt action, then started buying repeats. point is I wanted to touch all my bases before buying two of the same style. If I could change anything, I would have gone with the AR first, but a defense-caliber pistol isn't a terrible choice for the first gun either.

Yep, well handguns can serve a very important purpose, depending on what type of a situation you are in.  Look at Ferfal in Argentina.  He said the most important weapon was his handgun.  When you're working out in a field, a handgun on your person, would be more comfortable than having a long gun slung all day long.  Going into town to do some bartering or buying or trade and regime forces have declared those places gun-free zones?  The way they have gun-free zones now, I would say that could certainly be a possibility.  A concealed handgun would be better than nothing at all.  Handguns are also good for other things against regime forces as well.  Throw-aways or other things.

Its heavy, and that thing isn't going anywhere off the property on foot probably.  A cart would be a good thing, and of course, vehicle mounting is also a very good option.
