Family members, obviously you can't torture and release your loved one's 

But what must be done is a detainment, removal of everything dangerous. And you MUST show them, that everything will be ok as long as they help out. And keep they're cool.
I know if my wife or mother in law breaks down, I'm going to isolate, insure them that I love them and that with there help. All will be well & quite possibly even better than it was prior to the collapse. & what ever good they do they will get equal out of it. Not like we live now, we work our ass off and get nothing in return but a late bill and hassle from the land lord.

If you assure them that everything will be gravy, & your on your own now. If they work hard they will receive the proper reward.

Do a patrol for kadavers around your AO, take the heads (because they don't need them anymore).  Place the heads on tall sticks beside a sign that says, "This area is patrolled by the neighborhood watch."
