IMR 4350
« on: October 30, 2014, 11:07:10 PM »
For 30.06 and 243.   http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle  has data for both.  Thoughts on this powder for those cartridges.  Firing 180gr projectiles in the 06 and 100gr in the 243.  The data is below.

Both using Winchester Large Rifle Primers.

30.06-- IMR 4350  .308"  3.300" 53.0gr  2,586fps  48,300 PSI --- 56.5gr  2,752fps  57,200 PSI

,243-- IMR 4350  .243"  2.650"  38.5gr powder  2,760fps  3,000 CUP  to 42.0gr 2,958fps  50,100 CUP

Thoughts?  Suggestions?  4350 a bad one to use?  The generally perfect load??  What say you?

Hey Nemo, I'm away from my reloading books and have no internet access at the house so here goes nothing!

Get a copy of the Speer Reloading Manual and the Hornady Handbook. Compare one load to the other and go with the middle ground. Speer is hot as hell and Hornady is too.

Reloading is all about consistency and moderation.. double check everything from max barrel pressures to case charges and you will have a fricken ball!

thatGuy, You are correct.  I am being super double epic careful.  I like all my fingers and do not want a bolt in my eye.  I was planning on using the bottom load listed or even a grain or 4 less.

I was primarily interested in if anyone had tried this and it was dirty, tough to load, generally inaccurate, or what was the perfect load with those components.

I haven't used it but it's got rave reviews except got one where the guy claims he gets better accuracy out of 4350.. which is the powder in question..
Btw, don't under load.. I don't know why but you'll notice increased carbon fouling when under loading. I always run with what Speer recommends as a load after cross referencing with my Hornady book to verify that the data isn't a typo.

TG brings up a good point. Don't rely on just one reloading book to work up a load. I use the Lyman and Hornady reloading books and occasionally the internet to add a little spice.

OK JM, thatGuy, thoughts on:

The ABC's of reloading / by C. Rodney James and the editors of Handloader's digest.
James, C. Rodney. (Author). Grennell, Dean A. ABC's of reloading. (Added Author).

AND/OR the other book with attached photo of the cover.

Both are available at the local library.  Penny thing you understand.
