I've been rocking a Kershaw Skyline for years and have found it to be up to par.. don't try to baton wood with it though. Although it did survive it the pivot is now a little sloppier than it had been!

Due to draconian state law, the same state that will let me carry a concealed handgun, I've been rocking this little kershaw spring assist as my EDC ( and yes, I do prefer partially serrated for my EDC knife no matter what anyone says... save the plain blades for batoning):

But if I was still in Georgia, I would still be carrying this bad boy (which is now a safe queen):

I've been carrying this for the past five years and no complaints other than it's a combo edge. I don't abuse it but I don't baby it either, and it's held up pretty well. The rubber coating has worn off of about two thirds of the side that faces my hip in the last two years do to my keys being pulled out then put back in constantly. But the bare steel on the one side hasn't affected my grip in any measurable way. For under twenty bucks at Walmart it's hard to beat, but I've only seen the orange ones lately.

Specail-K, I thought I was only limited to under three inches, until I did a little more digging. I found the law states "... no one shall go armed with a blade over three inches in length, concealed with intent to harm..."

So as long as you don't "GO" with intent to harm your fine.

Here it's any concealed knife "designed for an offensive or defensive purpose"... yeah pretty vague.  So basically any knife that an officer and judge thinks looks menacing.  But a folding pocket knife with a blade less than 3 inches is considered "not a deadly weapon" and is deemed ok.

Ohio enacted state pre-emption (uniformity) for firearms laws a few years back... It took a few years and several costly lawsuits for the cities to finally pay attention to it.  They don't just write vague laws around here, they read and enforce them vaguely too.

For those who don't know where I live I live in Idaho and I checked the laws and they're ok to a certain extent. I love Kershaw I hear the quality is good but I'm new to knives to be honest and I'm open to anything.

My EDC is a Krenshaw Leek. http://www.knifexx.com/c-797-leek.aspx?gclid=CP-q5p_a27UCFYXc4Aod2RUAJQ

I like it for the "speedsafe assist" one finger opening function. My wife and brother use this knife as their EDC too.

Once you go spine lock you never go back. Ive had the same cold steel "american lawman" for about 4 years... still snaps into lock up hard and loud and has zero play. and that says a lot being i beat the crap out of it. Those belly lock knives seem so inferior in strength. Rest assured this knife will never close on you.

It seems like that whole locks strength relies on that moving pins strength. Im not saying its not strong but it is a moving part. Really all these types of locks are plenty stronge enough, my fued is with the belly locks. You could potentially release the lock within your grip on the knife. But the Cold Steel Triad lock self adjusts as the parts wear to solve any wear related play. The axis might do this too i have no idea. But i know one thing. That cold steel knife is good to go. Hammer tool, Prying tool, Flat head screw driver, and beyond. Its by no means a light knife, you can feel the heft in your hand. And i wouldnt have it any other way.

Ken and Mntn,

The knives look great however do they have speedsafe assist? With speedsafe assist its like having a switch blade.

just means the blade is spring loaded
its legal because you have to push on the blade for it to deploy rather than the illegal switch blade that uses a button to deploy the spring loaded blade
yes the laws really are that gay

I have quite the collection of medium-to-high quality knives, but my EDC is simply whatever cheap bullshit I don't mind fucking up.

I've been through about 4 Buck-light knives in the last few years (although, I don't run them until they're literally dead. i usually end up breaking the tip off and retiring it. i know it's still functional without a tip but I'm OCD about some things and it annoys me)

the only time I ever use any of my good knives is when I'm camping. the Buck 110 stays on my hip at all times when I'm camping, and it's either a standard KaBar, or a Sog Seal Pup Elite for batonning and other heavy fieldcraft.

my mom doesn't like it when I leave my glock out in the open, so she holds it with her thumb and index finger, like a dirty diaper, and prances across the room to toss it in with the rest of my "scary stuff"...

not joking.
