AK-12 New Kalashnikov

eh.
it's just another AK.
I don't see what's all that different from the AK-74 other than that weird railed dust cover and safety.

Internal differences?

Quote
The Kalashnikov AK-12 (Автомат Калашникова АК-12) is the newest derivative of the Soviet/Russian AK-47 series of assault rifles and is proposed for general issue to Russia?s armed forces.[4]

On May 25, 2010, Russia?s general news media published a Russian Defence Ministry statement that the AK-12 rifle was to be tested in 2011. The AK-12 rifle demonstration model was presented to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin during his official visit to inspect the products of the Izhmash arms manufacturing plant in Izhevsk.

The rifle demonstrated to Prime Minister Putin was apparently a basic AK-74M in standard 5.45?39mm calibre, with some evidence of external modifications, most of which are consistent with the modifications favoured by Russia?s specialist, professional military units: Picatinny rails?allowing the attachment of modular accessories, including advanced optical sight combinations, laser illuminators, flashlights, vertical foregrips, bipods and grenade launchers. An improved adjustable telescoping buttstock is also fitted. The rear sight has been moved from the front of the receiver to the rear, and the combination selector lever/dust cover on the right side of the receiver has been replaced by a thumb-activated ambidextrous selector lever above both sides of the pistol grip. Firing modes include safe, semi, 3 round burst, and full auto. To improve accuracy, the rifle has a new muzzle brake and the barrel has improved rifling.[5]

Kalashnikov AK-12 Unveiled

Izhmash has officially unveiled the first working prototype of the AK-12 Assault Rifle. According to Max Popenker there will be two models, a Light model (5.45x39mm, 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm) that accepts all magazines that work with existing AK rifles, as well as a new 60 round quad stack magazine, and a Heavy (7.62x51mm) model that will use a new magazine.

The rifle's major new features are ...

    Ambidextrous forward charging handle.
    Smaller ejection port.
    New safety switch.
New fire control switch with three modes of fire (single shot, 3 round burst and full auto).
New hinged top cover. The cover is a lot more rigid that the previous AK rifles.
    Quad picatinny rails.
    Folding and length adjustable stock.
Ergonomic pistol grip (with a decent radius between trigger guard and grip).
New muzzle brake that attaches to standard NATO 22mm threading.
    Improved barrel rifling.

Whilst it is not pretty, in fact it is downright ugly, it possess all the features of the latest western assault rifles.

So essentially the only internal differences are the FCG (for 3-shot burst) and safety? and "improved rifling" whatever the fuck that means on an AK.

I'd kick Lenin the the nuts to get my hands on one for ten minutes to see how bad the screwed up Mikhails invention.  The rifling change was a change in twist rate but noone's been able to confirm what it is for the x39 round.  IMHO it looks like they kidnapped  Marc Krebs and drug him to Russia to tinker with Mikhails toys.  Chesnekov applies in this case.
