I have had multiple EO Tech optics. Models 556, EXPS 3-0, EXPS 3-2, etc. I have never had a problem related to any of these Optics. The "problems" are at the extremes for useage and will not effect 99% of users. It is an issue for SOCOM and other users and thats where the trouble came in for L3. With all of the nonsense you may be able to pick up an EXPS 3 cheap as people are dumping them (for no reason mostly). On the other hand I returned an EXPS 3-0 that was "well used" and got more for it than I paid. Turned around and got a Trijicon MRO with AXTS mount....and kept some cash in my pocket.
Kbop check out the MRO if you are looking for a RDS. They are not as pricey as an Aimpoint, but from the little I have been able to use it (1 class) I like it as much as a T1. It is seriously bombproof.

This.
I own 3 Eotechs and 3 AIMpoints.
And they are all great
BUt They have differnt strenghts and weaknesses
never had a problem with any BTW
And I use my optics pretty hard ..18000 rds through my current EOtech 512 , lost zero only once, once!
Probably more than the avg SWAT team will ever put on a sight.
As for the temp issues ANY component of your weapons system, even iron sights (!) will experience a drift of Zero if you test them from +130 down to - 20F.
As for the HRT a LED redot sight will never perform as well for clarity and speed as a laser based holographic weapons sight (HWS) such an an Eotech. Its simply a better technology.
Is it more complex (less robust) and has less battery life (those lasers that are at the core of the performance eat more juice than a LED) yes, absolutely..
but... for an application like Home Defense or SWAT team where temperature issue and so called battery life limitations are simply an operational
non issue but the lack of the 65 MOA ring for short range engagement makes this a is no comparison.
Ah well, maybe I can pick up some EOTechs for a bit of a deal now.
I am not saying AIMPoints dont have a place. They are equally great sights but their different features lend themslevs to different roles... but I will use them where robustness and battery life is more important than performance like with cache guns or if I ever have to do a very long range patrol.
Extreme robustness and battery life that the AIMPOINT offers is great ...But.. if if thats all we want, why not stick with iron sights then???
There is a REASON we run electroptics over iron sights. and its Speed.
And not only is it faster close in due to the 65 MOA ring, but its also better for long range too because the 1 MOA dot on the ET is 4 times as fine as the 2 MOA dot on the AIMpoint
And thats why there is no comparison the EOtech just outperforms as a SIGHT and IMO thats an even stronger consideration than extreme robustness
