Did someone write something about birdshot for self-defense? Maybe point blank on the chest, neck, or brain bucket will stop someone. Other than that, it will just piss them off and make them in a lot of pain, but it certainly is NO guarantee it will stop a serious threat. There are hundreds of articles out there where a homeowner unloaded birdshot on a violent breaking an entering type thug, and he was perfectly fine and was able to walk out fine, just in a crap load of pain. My point is that it just doesn't stop a threat like buck shot or even a slug will. Stick with SBR rifles if you can, SBS shotguns with buckshot or slugs for self-defense, pistol rounds as a second option, IMHO, and never put birdshot in there, just don't do it. Its not a proper self-defense round, IMHO. From what I have read and researched.
