CTD Still a Stinky Company
« on: April 14, 2020, 01:35:27 PM »
As I mentioned last year, I've found Cheaper Than Dirt likes to take advantage of customers during times of strife.  Here's the old thread, where it was pointed out how CTD bumps prices during emergencies or when firearms and ammo are seriously needed: http://unchainedpreppers.com/forum/weapons/an-attempt-at-rational-ammo-stash-minimums/

Apparently, they are back to their old tricks: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/texas/article/gun-seller-texas-coronavirus-price-gouging-15197043.php#photo-19291697   The law of supply and demand is well understood, but it's morally wrong to take advantage of folks when they most need security.  Hopefully, this time maybe they'll learn their lesson, but from their past history, I doubt it. :dancingBanana:

Yea that company needs to burn and those people need to be blacklisted from future gainful employment.

Anyone who needs to buy ammo right now is either a brand new prepper or a very bad prepper. I can't see myself ever having to buy ammo again. I started buying ammo way back when it was hard to get and continued to buy it when it got more plentiful. I can't think of where I would store it if I bought any more. Lets put it this way. If I put it all in one bag, I wouldn't be able to even drag it across a slippery floor. To me, ammo is like stacking precious metals. If for some reason I run out of food, I could trade some for food.

I don't know, some folks may be re-evaluating the seriousness of the situation.  If you practice on a regular basis, then you need to replenish your ammo pile.  Even good preppers need to resupply occasionally.  I've been using www.ammoseek.com to locate reasonably priced ammo, when it's needed.  However, CTD is not one of my sources.

Locally, I've been hearing folks practicing on a regular basis, so there seems to be enough ammo.  We'll be going out back to practice later this week.

I agree that most of the panic buying that has led to the shortages has been by "new" people and "recreational" people that were not even thinking about needing any qty before the virus news began to kick up.  As Jackalope said, those of us that train on a regular basis still need to replenish our stocks.  I normally will stock up to about 10k rounds of 9mm which I will then use for training until my stocks dwindle to only about 2-3k then I will resupply.  I generally do this 2-2.5 times per year.
I happened to be mid-stock on 9mm and was not considering reordering when the panic kicked off.  I was early and did pick up just a couple of cases prior to the great buy-up of ammo.  I am not quite at my high levels but have plenty to continue to train until the stocks begin to come back up through my various sources.

I had just taken a big replenishment order of 5.56 prior to the panic.  I keep a reasonable stock of both 55gr M193 through 77gr SMK.  The better more expensive ammo was obviously the last stuff bought up.  For my precision guns .224V and 6.5CM have remained fairly available throughout this panic.  Luckily I only needed a small amount (1case) of 6.5CM which was available easily.

There is nothing good to be said about CTD or other retailers that take part in their type of behavior.  We have a larger local shop here that 1 week in started selling 115gr 9mm at $400/case and 55gr 5.56 for $600/case.  They tried to claim it was just price increases from their supplier when called out.  Being it was ammo that they had in stock it was a weak excuse seen right through.  They will still sell much of it but are truly damaging their reputation and long term business.
