Charter Arms?
« on: April 10, 2013, 12:19:45 AM »
My wife and daughters informed me last night that they each wanted a handgun. While this makes me very happy, They all said that the one they wanted is pink. I said, a Charter Arms? My daughter surprisingly said, Yeah!. I said, the Pink Lady? Again, she said, Yeah!. I mentioned this to a guy at work that used to sale guns and was a gunsmith. He said that Charter Arms were more complicated than they needed to be. He admitted he didn't know a whole lot about them, and said, as far as he knew, they were reliable enough. Do any of you have any insight to these revolvers? Not the pink lady necessarily, but Charter Arms, in general.

My opinion based on two that I've had.

I would use them as a drop gun or bury gun, and only an option of self defense if the " bury gun "was all I had left.

With exception to the bulldog. That thing is probably the most badass thing they have and ever will produce.

My brothers EDC is a Charter Arms Bull dog in .44 spl. He loves the weapon and is quite good with it out to 15 yards or so.

I too was at where you are now trying to figure out whether to buy the cheaper in price Charter Arms or more pricy Ruger sp 101 for my wife. At the time I was taking combat classes from David Kenick. I asked him which one he recommended and he told me if I could afford it to stay with the Cadillac of 5 shot wheel guns, the Ruger.

He also told me to get the spurless version (No hammer spur) Ruger sp101 in .357 mag. Have my wife shoot .38 spl. rounds.

Being a good Scotsman I shrugged off his advise and went to a gun shop to look at both side by side. I was on a business trip at the time in Virginia Beach and my hotel was across the street from a shooting range/gun shop. So I walked across the street to see if they had both models and they did.

I suggest you do the same. Go to a gun store WITHOUT your daughters and do a comparison on your own. Remember, you can always pink up a Ruger too - Grips, sights, etc.

Have fun.

Also you can Cerokote and other processes that can color the metal of a firearm. My wife wants purple for her's when we get that far.

Good input guys, Thanks! Showed them other ones, they also like the S&W, 637, I think it was. Also, JM mentioned pretty much any gun can be pinked out. So I've been googling sites and a whole world of pink guns and accessories opens up. So I'll let them shop around, then give MY input. Rugers look pretty expensive, considering it will be times 3. LOL  With all the options, they can each have pink ones, plus pick their own, to their individual taste.

lol at work we had two returned as a handful of parts. (Both Lavender ladies)
Customer got one, it fell apart while shooting, we replaced it, it happened again. We finally refunded it.
He was shooting winchester White box .38sp, it was NOT +P ammo.

Mine's not pink, but my CCW is the .38 S&W special +p airweight and I love it.  Great little gun. I like having the hammer, but you can get hammerless, fits in a pocket, purse, cowboy boot, etc... super light weight (as the name suggests) and we can share ammo at the range for my gun and TG's SP101.  I also have a little speed loader for it in case 5 rounds isn't enough.

I don't have any experience with Charter Arms, but the S&W 637 would be a great gun for your wife and daughters, HJ.

The whole pink gun thing bugs me. It says something about the mindset of the guns owner. Its not an accessory to your outfit. Its a tool that inflincts lethal damage. If it were me id try and get the girl interested in a pink gun on the right page mentally. Maybe im over exagerating this but no daughter or wife of mine would ever own a pink gun. Id like to think theyd never even ask or want one because i taught them well. Im not baggin on anyone for whay they do. Just my opinion.

IMO, Ken I am pretty stoked that more and more women are coming to the range I don't care if they show up with a purple, pink or chartreuse weapon. Remember, Ford produced any colored Model T as long as it was black.

A friend of mine went to a weapon training class in NH a couple of years ago where one of the instructors was Massad Ayoob. His part of the training wasn't shooting it was on you and the law if you shoot someone.

Apparently Aayoob makes part of his living testifying as an "expert witness" for the DA and for the defense teams. He told the class how much easier it would to defend a justified shooting if the shooter didn't use a traditional, blued or stainless steel weapon. Which is one of the reasons his EDC knife is pink.

Yeah, it don't bother me that they want pink guns. They've all been shooting multiple types of guns for years now. They've liked guns long before they even knew there were pinks guns. They don't want guns because they're pink. They just want guns, and are thrilled to find out that pink is an option.

Come on Ken, anything that gets the fairer sex interested in shooting is worth it. Especially if a rattle can of paint can 'undo' it!

I own a S & W model 637 .38 +p just like thatGirl and I love it!  The Charter Arms is a good weapon but there is nothing like a tuned Smith action and trigger.  I carry the j-frame when I can't conceal my full-size Sig. [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co
