Anchorage hunter seriously injured after shot bear falls on top of himUpdated: 55 minutes agoPublished 6 hours ago A hunter from Anchorage was seriously injured Saturday when a bear that had been shot tumbled off a ridge, striking him.William McCormick, 28, and Zachery Tennyson, 19, both from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, were hunting above Carter Lake west of Moose Pass on Saturday, troopers said in an online dispatch."The pair were hunting in the area and shot a bear above them on a ridge," according to the dispatch. "The bear rolled down the slope dislodging rocks in the process."McCormick was hit by "both a rock and the bear."Tennyson wasn't injured. The two were able to use an InReach device to notify troopers in Soldotna.Troopers arrived at the scene along with the Bear Creek Fire Department, Moose Pass Volunteer Fire Department and LifeMed.The rescuers carried McCormick to a helicopter, where he was taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.Michelle Theriault Boots is a reporter who covers news and features about life in Alaska.
