Be a gnome in your BOL
« on: February 06, 2012, 08:39:23 PM »
a few years ago a friend and I was discussing buying an abandoned bunker that was once used to house missles and such. the bunker itself was still intact, the owners wanted 60k for it (a sum neither of us was at the time able to even imagine having.) so seeking alternative ideas we went searching for things and the following link is basically what we found. I didn't do too much digging before posting this but what I found before were basically step by step instructions on how to build one of these from the ground up (dont mind my pun)

after a few moments of digging I found this lil bugger now go get your hands dirty!

this is the main site for it... check out the emergency house or whatever its callled...  said it costed 1k USD to build. Just think about filling your own sand bags and such. and for those fellow sewing preppers... making your own bags.. (WOULD TAKE FOREVER) but would be worth it. just stick to the materials (mostly earth and a lil more... earth)

this is a little extreme for the concept but this is one of the possibilities

one thing thats cool about it. is if you aren't right at sea level... like me, most of your house or whatever you want to call it can be underground. so if your digging out a lil foxhole.. why not dome some sandbags over it :)

Dude just make sure that you are buttressing those walls and adding all the rebar, barbed wire and nylon mesh (under the plaster) that you can. Earth bags got a bad rap for falling over and killing people because they lack shear strength.
